Entering the Classroom
Walk in quietly and choose your menu item. This is the time to sharpen your
pencil, use the restroom, etc., then take your seat and begin your daily
language. You may be directed to get a specific worksheet or there may be a
worksheet provided for you on your desk. The information to the assignment
will be written on the board daily. Be sure to always include first and
last name and the date on your assignments.
Come to Attention
When Mrs. Frazier needs your attention she will simply raise her hand. This
will continue until every student has his or her hands raised. This helps
students to see that we are all a team and that we must work together to
create a successful learning environment.
When You are Tardy
Tardy for the 4th grade begins at 7:55 a.m. If you are tardy, report to the
office to receive a note. Upon reporting to class, promptly give Mrs.
Frazier your tardy slip. Remember, school policy states that after your
fifth tardy you will receive a detention.
Keeping your Desk Neat
All students should keep all needed items on their desks and store the other
items in their tubs under their desks. Do not mark or draw on your desk.
Please place all trash in the trash can and remember to always keep your
desk and tub NEAT and CLEAN!!!
Moving about the Room
Students can move around the room only when the lesson is over. Only one
person may be at the pencil sharpener, trashcan, computer, tissue box, or
teacher’s desk at a time. Students will be given specific times throughout
the day when they can sharpen pencils, go to the restroom, etc.
When you Finish Early
Check your work for errors. Read a library book. Clean your desk. Do
homework.
Asking and Responding to Questions
All students need to participate by sharing valuable information or asking
further questions. Remember to respect others while they are talking and
always raise your hand to speak. Don’t be afraid to ask questions!
When a School Wide Announcement is Made
When an announcement is made, the talking must stop. Always be respectful.
Going to the Office, Bathroom, Library, etc.
At times students may be asked to do errands for the teacher. The student
must sign out on the clipboard. He/she should write his/her destination,
the time of departure, and arrival back to the room. Students will report
only to the assigned area and return
promptly.
Passing in Papers
Students will pass papers to the person in front of them. All papers will
be passed to the person in the front row.
When Visitors are in the Room
Students will continue to work on their assignments or any other work they
may have. This is not a time to socialize or talk, so there will be
absolutely no talking.
If the Teacher is out of the Classroom
Students should follow class procedures. Students should enter the room and
begin working on the assignment given. If an assignment is not given,
students should immediately read their library book and remain quiet.
My Desk, Overhead, and Computer
These are off limits to students unless they are given permission by the
teacher.
When you are Absent
It is your responsibility to find out the work that you have missed when you
return to school. You are to go to the absent chart and look for the
materials in each subject that you missed. If you are absent 3 days you
will have 3 days to make up your work. The number of days you miss=number
of days allowed to make-up your work.
Late Work
Points will be deducted when work is not turned in at the appropriate time.
A 5 point reduction in score on the first day, 10 point reduction on second
day, 20 point reduction on the third day, a grade of zero will be recorded
on the fourth day. This does not apply to work missed due to student
absence.
Using the Telephone: Students are not allowed to use the phone unless it is
an emergency and permission has been given by the teacher.
Midterm Reports
Midterm reports will be sent home following the 4th week of the grading
period. It is the student’s responsibility to take the report home and get
it signed. Midterm reports should be returned the following day. If it is
not returned within 2 days, the student will automatically lose privileges.
Extra Credit
Extra credit assignments will be available for those students who wish to
take advantage of them. Extra credit is offered throughout the nine weeks,
but will not be accepted after the 8th week of the grading period. Points
will not be added to the grade but will be averaged into the grade.
Homework
You should expect about 30-45 minutes of homework each day, other than
studying for tests. Students must use their time wisely and try to complete
all work in class. I expect students to do the work on their own and ask
for help only after they have given their best effort. All homework will be
checked to give students immediate feedback. I feel that parents are the
key to making homework a positive experience for their children. Homework
is a valuable tool that teaches students responsibility, prepares for
upcoming lessons, and reinforces what has been taught.
End of Class Dismissal
Class will be dismissed in an orderly manner. Students will be dismissed
only after everyone is packed up and the room is neat.
Reading Counts
Students will be responsible to read books and take four reading counts
tests for each nine weeks. Students will be rewarded for the points they
earn for the book he or she reads. A grade of 100 will be given in reading
for each test passed after the fourth. 75 points is needed to attend the
Reading Counts Reward Trip at the end of the year.
Classroom Jobs
Each day a student will be designated as the “Student Teacher Assistant”.
The “Student Teacher Assistant” will help the teacher with daily tasks such
as passing out and taking up papers, running errands, watering the plant,
erasing the board, etc.
