Monday November 16th: We will have a guest reader in our classrooms this day. Tuesday November 17th: We will be reading a story to a kindergartener. Students will select a book, practice it at home, and read that story to a kindergarten student on Tuesday afternoon. Wednesday November 18th: This will be Book Share day in our classroom. Students will bring a favorite book, along with a drawn picture of their favorite part of the book to class. Students will then share these with our class. This is a required activity, and students will receive a “100” if prepared for this activity. Thursday November 19th: Second Grade will hold its annual Book Character Parade. On this day, students will dress as their favorite book characters and visit other classrooms in grades K-4. Students will show the book their favorite character is in, and tell who wrote the book. This is a required activity for all 2nd graders, and everyone who dresses up as a book character will receive a “100” in reading. Costumes do not have to be elaborate. Your child will need a copy of the book his/her character is in. Friday November 20th: Students will participate in the Second Grade Story Swap. Students will bring a book they have chosen (and practiced at home) to read to a partner from another 2nd grade classroom. This, too, is a required activity that is certain to be lots of fun for our students. We are very excited about Children’s Book Week, and look forward to seeing lots of creative costumes. You most likely can use your child’s Halloween costume if you so choose. Please let your child’s teacher know if you need some ideas to get started. Thanks for all you do for your child. We are enjoying a fantastic year.
