Pearson Longman has introduced a new ESL curriculum that RCS recently
adopted for beginner ELLs. This curriculum is designed to accelerate English
language acquisition and foster writing, speaking, and reading skills.
There are also specifically designed portions of instruction for vocabulary,
grammar, and phonics/word analysis. The entire curriculum is based on Social
Studies and Science, which are typically the lowest scoring areas for ELLs
on TCAPs. So far, the students have enjoyed using the textbook and practice
book for ESL. This curriculum is used until the student is prepared with
the English skills necessary to participate in the regular
classroom. "Cornerstone" is the portion of curriculum that is being used for
K-3, and "Keystone" is being used for the 4-8 grade.
