3rd Grade Reading

Reading to Succeed in Third Grade

We are working hard to improve your child's decoding skills.
We are working on the following skills:
      closed syllables
      consonant digraphs
      consonant blends
      vowel teams
      glued sounds
      bonus letters
      spelling rules
      trick words
      story retelling

We desire for your child to be able to decode any word that they come across
while reading.

One of the best ways to improve your child's reading ability is to have your
child to read aloud to you for 10 minutes every night. Please pick books or
reading materials that your child is interested in such as magazines or a
favorite book series. After you listen to your child read please discuss what
it was that you read. You can include this in their other homework by having
them read aloud from their Social Studies textbook or Science or their Math
word problems. You can do this without it being extra work just be a little
creative.
