Rutherford Elementary School
I wanted to tell you a little about me for those of you who do not know me.
My maiden name was Teresa Taylor. I grew up in Dyer and graduated from GCHS
in 1983. In 1987, I graduated from UTM with a degree in Early Childhood
Education. After substitute teaching a year in preschool thru high school, I
began my first full time teaching position here at Rutherford in 1988. In
1989, I married my high school sweetheart-Mike Fuqua. We have two daughters.
Anna Paige is a Freshman at Austin Peay, and Taylor Beth is a junior at
GCHS. We are all members of First Baptist Church in Dyer. We built a
new house in Rutherford in 2004. We also have a very spoiled Yorkie named
This will begin my 25th year of teaching. One year I taught a first-second
grade split. Two years I have taught all first grade. Two years I taught
kindergarten-first grade splits, and for eighteen years I
taught all kindergarten. I am a firm believer in the importance of
these early school years in a child's life. As we built our house, I was
reminded of how important a strong foundation is. It is my goal to help your
child build a strong foundation this year upon which many years of future
learning and successes will be added in their educational careers. My husband
sells chemicals and seeds to farmers at Helena Chemical Company, and he
reminds me of how important proper seed planting is. I also hope to plant
seeds of a love of learning in my students' hearts this year.
We will have a busy year as we learn. Monday and Friday we have
P.E. in the gym with Ms. Stacy French. Please remember to have your
child wear tennis shoes on these days.Every other Friday we have guidance
with Ms. Lisa Brewer, and we have art on Thursday with Ms.Tesha Goodgine.
Music is on Tuesday morning with Ms.Cindy Cherry. We also go to library on
Tuesday and our librarian, Ms. Becky, reads to us. Each morning
we have opening activities which include calendar discussions, money
counting, and other drills. We have reading, and center time in the morning.
After lunch each day, we have Math,Grammar, Writing,Social Studies, and
Science. We go to computer lab four days a week. Students work on our
Riverdeep program in this time. Last, we have snack/playtime
before time to go home. As you can tell, we share busy days together!!!
