Purpose: The purpose of homework for students:
* To provide a link between home and school.
* To reinforce skills taught and increase student achievement.
* To encourage responsibility and develop study habits.
Time Allotment:
* Students will benefit from 10 - 20 minutes of homework each night.
* Students are expected to read outside of their assigned work. They
should read with or to an adult nightly.
Students Responsibilities:
Students will:
* Write homework assignments in their agendas daily.
* Place homework assignments in notebook.
* Share assignment and have agenda signed by an adult.
* Return assignments on the following day or the due date.
* Study reading/spelling words daily.
* Read books and materials outside their assigned work daily.
Parent Responsibilities:
Parents will:
* Provide a suitable place and time for homework and studies.
* Encourage students to do his/her own work.
* Offer help and support for outside reading and assignments as
needed.
* Participate in assignments which call for parental involvement-
-reading words
-spelling words
-sight words
* Check to see that homework is completed and placed in backpack.
* Initial your child's agenda nightly.
Teacher Responsibilities:
Teacher will:
* Clearly explain homework assignments.
* Communicate with grade level team mates and special area teachers
regarding homework and special projects.
* Post homework assignments on the overhead for students to copy.
* Use judgment in assigning make-up work after a stduent's absence.
* Monitor completion of homework.
* Be mindful of students' obligations to home, community, and other
school activities.
* Allow students access to library books for independent reading.
* Arrange to meet with students and/or parents if questions arise.
Grading:
Homework will be checked and included as a part of the child's effort
grade for that particular subject.
