Mrs. Kathy Smith is now teaching her 35th group of kindergarten students.
(2009-2010) Mrs. Smith grew up in Nashville and attended Tusculum Elementary,
McMurray Junior High and John Overton High School. After graduating from John
Overton, she entered Belmont University and graduated with a B.S. degree.
Her major was Elementary Education with a minor in Kindergarten. Mrs. Smith
taught kindergarten at Dan Mills Elementary for one year and then moved to
Hattie R. Cotton Elementary where she taught kindergarten for 28 years.
While at Hattie Cotton, Mrs. Smith completed her Masters degree. She has
the distinction of being the first person to complete the M. Ed. degree at
Belmont. During her tenure at Hattie Cotton, she also completed +30 graduate
hours at Cumberland University. Mrs. Smith was honored to be elected Teacher
of the Year while she was at Hattie Cotton. She is one of the kindergarten
teachers that helped open Shayne Elementary school.
Mrs. Smith is married to Bill Smith and they have two children, Rich and
Molly. (Molly is a Kindergarten teacher.) Mrs. Smith loves teaching
kindergarten and kindergarten children. She has many hobbies. Some of her
hobbies are crocheting, sewing, scrapbooking and relaxing on her pontoon boat
at the lake.
The mission for our class is to be the best we can be. We will work hard
every day so we are ready for first grade.
