Homework

Homework goes home with each student Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday
afternoons. It will be various combinations of practice activities as well
as reading aloud each night.

Look in your child's "Take home notebook". In the front flap inside the notebook, will be information
or work due the next day. In the back flap, behind the Agenda, will be graded work or important
information to KEEP-don't return!

Because we never have enough time during the school day, this time at home with one on one help
gives each student help at home with mom, dad, or another adult helper.

At times, there will be additional homework. This could include: work that was not completed at
school, special projects, and/or library book reports.

Many of the students are still unsure of their basic addition and subtraction facts. These facts are
the basis for all of the Mathskills to come. PRACTICE THESE REGULARLY. Do not continue practicing
the facts they know well. When there is a fact (or facts) yourchild cannot remember, PRACTICE
THOSE, until your child never hesitates. A few of these problem facts are the doubles facts like
                                  7+7=14 and 14-7=7, etc.
Or, one more and one less than a doubles fact. Such as:
                              7+7=14, so 7+6=13, and 7+8=15

THESE FACTS NEED TO BE AUTOMATIC and MEMORIZED as soon as possible!!

Our weekly "sight words", which are the most frequently used words seen in print and used in
writing, make up the Spelling curriculum. Check your child's Agenda for "Weekly Word List". These
will need to be practiced, reviewed, and pointed out in stories and/or writing assignments you see
come home. Your help is essential to your child's success.

Remember, YOU are your child's first and most important
teacher.
