4th Grade Weekly Word List Week of Nov. 9th – 13th Reading - Our reading story for this week is “So You Want to Be President?”. It is located on pages 244 - 257. We will read it in class on Monday. Please have your child read this story at home on Monday night. We will have a reading test on Friday of this week. The format will be multiple choice and short answer. It will include vocabulary words, story skill questions, and comprehension questions. We will orally review for this test in class on Thursday prior to the test on Friday. ** VOCABULARY - Please review these vocabulary words with your child at home. Your child needs to be familiar with the word, its meaning, and how to use it in context. • Constitution – the written set of fundamental principles by which the United States is governed ; set of laws • howling – very great • humble – not proud; modest • politics – the work of government; management of public business • responsibility – the act or fact of taking care of someone of something; an obligation • solemnly – seriously; earnestly; with dignity • vain – having too much pride in your looks, ability, etc. • execute – to carry out or do • oath – a solemn promise • priority – something given attention before anything else READING SKILLS THIS WEEK INCLUDE: Vocabulary, Main Idea/Details, Drawing Conclusions, Writing Skills Math - • 9’s Facts • Writing Numbers/Place Value/Expanded Form to Millions • Writing and Identifying Mixed Numbers • Money/Decimals We will have timed quizzes this week on the following multiplication tables listed below. 2’s, 3’s, 4’s, 5’s,6’s, 7’s, 10’s, 11’s We will review the 9’s multiplication tables and begin having quizzes on them beginning Friday! Please review these at home with your child! I cannot stress the IMPORTANCE of practicing these NIGHTLY!!! **Practice 9’s pattern at home nightly – 9, 18, 27, 36, 45, 54, 63, 72, 81, 90, 99, 108 Word Analysis – Word Analysis/Phonics this year will be integrated with the reading curriculum. We will cover words each week and the phonetic rule or pattern that accompanies those words. The words that we will use accompany our reading series. We will work with these words in class and in small group settings. It would BENEFIT your child GREATLY to become familiarized with these words at home as well. Please review these words with your child throughout the week.
