4th Grade Weekly Word List
Week of Oct.26th – 30th
Reading - Our reading story for this week is “Grace and the Time Machine”.
It is located on pages 192 - 207. This week’s selection is a play. We will
read it in class on Monday and Tuesday. We will have a reading test on
Friday of this week. The format will be multiple choice and short answer.
It will include vocabulary words, story skill questions, and comprehension
questions. We will orally review for this test in class on Thursday prior
to the test on Friday.
** VOCABULARY - Please review these vocabulary words with your child at
home. Your child needs to be familiar with the word, its meaning, and how to
use it in context.
• aboard – on board; in or on a ship, train, or bus
• atlas - a book of maps
• awkward – not graceful or skillful in movement or shape; odd or
unusual
• capable - having fitness, power, or ability; able to do something
• chant - to call over and over again
• mechanical – like a machine
• miracle – a wonderful happening
• reseats – sits again
• vehicle – device for carrying people or things such as a car
• contraption – device or gadget
• pantomime – to express by gestures
READING SKILLS THIS WEEK INCLUDE: Vocabulary, Elements of a Play,
Compare/Contrast, Prefixes, Drawing Conclusions, Advertisements
Math - In math this week, we will cover the following skills:
Multiplication
Subtraction with Regrouping
Ordering #’s
We will have a math test on Friday of this week. A study sheet will be sent
home on Thursday night.
We will have timed quizzes this week on the following multiplication tables
listed below.
2’s, 3’s,4’s, 5’s, 7’s, 10’s, 11’s
We will review the 6’s multiplication tables and begin having quizzes on them
beginning Friday! Please review these at home with your child! I cannot
stress the IMPORTANCE of practicing these NIGHTLY!!!
**Practice 6’s pattern at home nightly – 6, 12, 18, 24, 30, 36, 42, 48, 54,
60, 66, 72
Word Analysis – Word Analysis/Phonics this year will be integrated with the
reading curriculum. We will cover words each week and the phonetic rule or
pattern that accompanies those words. The words that we will use accompany
our reading series. We will work with these words in class and in small
group settings. It would BENEFIT your child GREATLY to become familiarized
with these words at home as well. Please review these words with your child
throughout the week. Daily grades and QUIZ grades will be taken from these
words.
*This week’s words have the –or sound and the –ar sound.

English - A study sheet will be sent home on Monday night. We will have a
quiz on Abbreviations and Possessive Nouns on Tuesday. We will begin
studying action verbs and linking verbs this week.
