Parents,
At the beginning of each six weeks, I send home a copy of the skills that
will be covered. Please go over these skills a few minutes daily. It makes
a big improvement!!
November 9-13
In Reading, we will be learning letter C and the sound it makes, we will be
reviewing main idea, and learning about real v. fantasy, and we will be
reviewing our high frequency words: we, my, like.
In Phonics, we will be learning letter S and the sound it makes. We will be
making spiders using our hands, and we will also be making edible spiders on
Friday. Please ask your child how we made these.
In Math, we will be reviewing the number line and filling in missing
numbers, we will be using a graph to answer questions, and we will review
writing numbers 0-10. We will take a Chapter 4 test on Friday.
In science, we will learn about living/nonliving things.
In social studies, we will learn about communication.
November 2-6
In Reading, we will be learning letter P (initial and final), discussing main
idea, and learning 3 new words: we, my, like. Our two new leveled readers
for the week are: Tam and Sam Go to the Zoo and Pat the Penguin.
In phonics, we will be learning letter I and the two sounds it makes. We will
review the high frequency word to.
In math, we will be reviewing the number line and filling in missing
numbers, we will be using a graph to answer questions, and we will review
writing numbers 0-10.
In Science we are learning about the Sun.
In Social Studies we are learning about families.
October 26-30
In reading, we will discuss the setting of a story. We will learn about
letter S and the sound it makes. We will be reviewing the high frequency
words: have and is. Our two leveled readers for the week are Soccer Game and
Tam and Sam in the Orange Grove.
In phonics, we will be learning letter M and the sound it makes.
In Math, we will review for a chapter test on Monday, and we will take the
test on Tuesday. On Wednesday, we will begin learning numbers 6-10.
In social studies, we are learning about transportation.
In science, we are learning about day and night.
October 19-21
Because of fall break, we will NOT have a new reading story this week or
learn a new letter in phonics. We will continue with math, science, and
social studies.
In math, we will continue learning numbers 0-5. We will also learn about
estimation.
In science, we are learning about the weather and seasons.
In social studies, we are learning about history and famous people.
October 12-16
In reading, we will discuss how things are alike and how they are
different. We will be learning the letter A and the sound it makes. Our NEW
high frequency words for the week are: have and is. Our leveled readers for
the week are Alligator Ann and Tam at the Beach.
In Math, we will learn how to compare groups by using the words "More"
and "Fewer". We will also identify numbers 0-5, make groups of 1-5, and
learn how to write numbers 0-5
In Phonics, we will learn about letter N and the sound it makes.
In Science, we will be learning about water.
In Social Studies, we will be learning about time.
October 5-9
In Reading, we will be focusing on letter T (initial and ending sound),
reviewing the high frequency words "to" and "a" (ugh!), and learning how to
categorize/classify. Our leveled readers for the week are Toy Store and
Tony’s Taxi.
In phonics, we will learn letter A, review the sight word ‘the’, and eat ANTS
ON A LOG on Thursday!
In Math, we will learn how to compare groups by using the
words "More" and "Fewer".
In Science, we will be talking about the Earth.
In Social Studies, we will be talking about responsibility.
September 28-October 2
In Reading, we will be focusing on letter Mm. We will learn 2 new sight
words: "to" and "a" (ugh). The leveled readers for the week are “Mouse and
Moose” and “Cat and Dog Munch Together.”
In Phonics, we will be learning letter Pp and the sound it makes. We will
learn words top, got, pop, pot, tot, and hop. Please practice these words
with your child at home.
In math, we will finish the chapter on patterns and take a test on Friday.
In social studies, we will be learning about citizenship.
In science, we will be continue to talk about science tools and how to use
tools safely.
**Friday is the last day of the 1st weeks.
September 21-25
In Reading, we will learn letters Tt, Uu, Vv, Ww, Xx, Yy and Zz. We
will review high frequency words "the" and "little". We will review
syllables and begin learning how to classify/categorize. We will also begin
learning how to discriminate initial sounds. Our 2 leveled readers for the
week are Cat and Dog Go To Town and Where Is It?
In Phonics, we will be learning letter T and the sound it makes. We will
learn new words-got and hot.
In math, we will continue to learn about patterns.
In science, we will learn tools that are used in science.
In social studies, we will learn about where we are in the world
September 14-18
In Reading, we will learn letters Nn, Oo, Pp, Qq, Rr, and Ss. We
will also learn high frequency words "the" and "little". We will review
rhyming words and syllables. We will review characters, setting, and begin
to retell a story in our own words.
In Phonics, we will be learning letter Hh and the sound it makes. We will
learn the word "HOG".
In math, we will take a Chapter 1 test on Monday. On Tuesday, we will begin
to learn about patterns: how to identify a pattern, make a pattern, extend a
pattern, and describe a pattern.
September 8-11
In Reading, we will learn letters F-N, reviewing rhyming words, the high
frequency words "I", "am", and identifying characters in a story. We will
begin learning about syllables and setting of a story
In math, we will be working on reading and creating graphs. We will review
Chapter 1 on Friday and take a Chapter 1 test on Monday on next week.
In Phonics, we will be learning letter Gg and the sound it makes. We will
learn the word "LOG". Also, starting this week we will have a phonics test
every Thursday. Please study all the letters with your child so he/she will
be prepared for the test.
August 31-September 4
In Reading, we will be learning about letters A-E, rhyming words, ordinal
numbers first-sixth, and learning the sight words I and am
In Math, we will be learn how to use a picture to solve a problem, sort by
color, shape, and size, and begin working on reading graphs.
In Phonics, we will learn about letter O and the sound it makes. Also,
students will begin to identify vowels and consonants.
August 24-28
This week, we will be learning about our school, rules/procedures, fire and
tornado drills, learn where things are located, begin working on coloring
skills, and writing our first names.
In Math, we will be learning position words such as up, down,top, middle,
bottom, inside, outside, left and right. We will also be learning the 4 basic
shapes (circle, square, rectangle, and triangle)
In Phonics, we will be learning about letter L and the sound it makes.
