Homework

August 12 - student packets distributed for parental review and signature.

August 17 - 21 Analyze a picture (provided), Create a relative location map, 
handout exercise using the geographic dictionary


August 24 - 28 Students must complete the skeleton outline provided 
concerning  Tennessee history. Additionally three questions to be turned in 
on Friday. 1. Which President caused and what were the results of the Trail 
of Tears?, 2. Why did TN have the 2d most Civil War battles?, 3. Name the 
Presidents which were from TN and their accomplishments. THINKLINK on 
Wednesday during 1st Block. On Friday students will complete a map exercise 
using a common tourist map.

September 14 - 18 Constitution Week and Homecoming. We will begin with intro 
for chapter 2 followed by discussion on the Vikings and the Dark Ages. Prince 
Henry the Navigator (TCAP) with his navigator school, inventions and maps 
spur the Europeans into exploration and routes to the East Indies. Students 
were asked to create a (timeline on Viking westward exploration). Tuesday 
with the Spanish sea captains (homework p42 definitions). Wednesday was the 
day of Cortes and Pizarro - (homework - How did Cortes defeat the Aztecs).

September 21 - 25 We are finishing chapter 2 and are emphazing the explorers 
of the American SW, treatment of the native americans and Las Casas. We 
jumped to Europe and discuss Martin Luther and the Protestant Revolution and 
the North West Passage and the english, dutch and french explorers. We will 
view two videos - "Roanoke - The Lost Colony" and "Explorers of the 
Northeast - Henry Hudson". Homework/classwork for the week - p51, q 1-3; What 
happened to the Spanish economy?; What was the search for the Northwest 
Passage?; and p61, q 1-3. Test next week.

September 28 - October 2 This will be Chapter 2 test week (hopefully on 
Thursday). On Monday will be review with chapter review p65-66. Tuesday the 
students as a class will produce a twenty question test w/answers and then 
take the test. Wednesday is the County Wide Mock Writing Assessment (35 
minutes) during 1st Block.Will listen to Columbus and Gallah audios. 
Hopefully Chapter 2 Test followed by a discussion on pirates with the 
students creating a treasure map. Friday - will view History Channel 
video "Pirates" with a work sheet. followed by a treasure map search if time 
allows (should be Family/Club Friday)
