FAQFrequently Asked Questions: This page contains answers to common questions of students and parents. English as a Second Language (ESL) is a class for students who speak a language other that English. Students in the ESL program are referred to as English Langauge Learners (ELLs). How does a student join the ESL program? In the registration packet, parents complete a document called a Home Language Survey. If any language other than English is denoted on that form, then the student is tested using the state-approved English Language Assessment. If the student scores below fluent on any subtest, then they qualify for ESL services. Students are scheduled in ESL classes based on their needs, as well as the regular classroom schedule. |
