What is ESL?

English as a Second Language (ESL) is a class for students who speak a 
language other that English.

Who is an ELL?

Students in the ESL program are referred to as English Langauge Learners 
(ELLs).

How does a student join the ESL program?

In the registration packet, parents complete a document called a Home 
Language Survey.  If any language other than English is denoted on that 
form, then the student is tested using the state-approved English Language 
Assessment.  If the student scores below fluent on any subtest, then they 
qualify for ESL services.

When do ESL classes meet?

Students are scheduled in ESL classes based on their needs, as well as the 
regular classroom schedule.
