Description

Accelerated Reader (AR) provides independent reading practice for each child
at his or her appropriate level. Participating students read books within
their reading level and then take comprehension tests on the computer. They
earn points based on their test score. As a student's reading level
increases, so does the difficulty of books chosen to read.

Please read your child's AR books at home with him/her each night. When you
feel your child is ready to test on a book write me a note in his/her
agenda. I will let them test that day and get a new book to take home. Each
child must earn the designated amount of points given to them by the end of
the nine weeks in order to participate in the AR incentive at the end of the
grading period. Most of the books read are worth 0.5 points. Students must
test on books that are on their level. For example, if a student's level is
1.8-2.8, then that student would not earn points for testing on a book that
is 1.4.

At the beginning of each 9 week period, I will send home a note with your
child's new level and goal. Your child will also write how many points they
have earned periodically in their agendas. Please check your child's agenda
daily.

If you have any questions, please let me know!
