Sunbright School Tiger Talk News Letter

Principal's Note

I would like to update you on some new activities we are doing this year to help our students be more successful. We are beginning a cluster program in our elementary area that will offer students opportunities to move from one cluster to another to work on needed skills/enrichment. All teachers, regular and special education, along with all aides, will be working with the various groups' throughout the school year. The groups' focus will change as students progress from one level to another. We are very excited about the program and feel that it will provide long term benefits for our children.

Another focus will be to offer support to students who have poor grades. Beginning at the first progress report time, we will be developing strategies to aid students who are not doing well. We will be looking at class preparation, attendance, homework issues, or any other things that may need to be addressed.

We are looking forward to a great school year and hope that you will continue to work with us to help your child to grow and become the best person that she/he can be. I now have a website where I will try to post updates on things of importance to you and your child. It is http://teacherweb.com/TN/Sunbright/carolynshannon/

Sunbright Students Earn College Credit

Sunbright School has embraced a new opportunity for high school students. Thirteen qualified juniors and seniors will be able to receive college high school credit for certain classes. Working hand-in-hand with Roane State officials, our school has designed one college credit class for dual credit each semester. This semester we are offering Sociology 201 taught by Professor Will Lavender. Some of the topics that students will learn more about are sociological perspectives, cultures, groups/organizations, social and global stratification, and social change. Next semester, we are scheduled to offer Composition I. This is a required college English credit. Offering credit classes is just one way Sunbright School is trying to meet the needs of our academically advanced students.
