Announcements

Dear Parents,
Hello again!! I just wanted to let you know that your child's
homework assignments will be posted each day on our school web site, as well
as our class web site. There is a link to our class web site on the school
web site if you are having difficulty accessing it. To get to our class web
site on the school web site, go to www.littleflockchristianacademy.com .
Once on the web site, you can click on the "Students" tab and then on our
classroom link, 3A. I will post the homework for each day before I leave
school each afternoon, so if you have any questions regarding the homework,
you will be able to check the web site. For now, I will only be posting that
day¡¦s work. However, I may post items that will be due later in the week if
I know of them in advance. I believe that this will help you to stay
informed about your child's education. However, even though the assignments
will be posted online, this IN NO WAY excuses your child from recording their
assignments into their planner and being responsible for their own work and
studying. Please be checking your child's planner to make sure that they are
copying their assignments down thoroughly. Anything that is on the web site
I am writing on the board and they are supposed to have it all copied down
each day. The purpose of the planners is not just to allow you to be able to
check your child's homework, but to teach your child responsibility and
prepare them for the fourth grade.
In other news, we have begun reading the book "Pilgrim Boy"
for our reading class this week. Most nights, your child will have assigned
pages to read for homework. They will have a quiz over the assigned reading
at the beginning of class the next day. Their assigned reading for the night
will be written in your child's planner and posted online each day, so be
sure to check that they are reading. Students should read their assigned
pages in a quiet place by themselves twice and then read it once out loud to
a parent. Please encourage your child to have good expression, speed, and
accuracy as them read. If your child does not know a word, encourage them
to "Sound it Out." If your child still cannot read the word after trying to
sound it out, then you may tell them the word. Students should spend at
least 15 minutes on their reading homework each night. Please initial your
child's planner after you have heard your child read.
This time of listening to your child read is very important
because, starting next week, your child will be given a weekly Oral Reading
Grade. To get this grade, I will call on students to read one-third to one-
half of a page of new reading material during class time. As they read
aloud, I will listen for certain criteria of oral reading and grade your
child based on their reading. I am attaching a copy of the "Oral Reading
Form Rubric" that I will be using to assess your child. Please feel free to
use it as a guide to help your child practice as they read aloud to you each
night. Thank you so much for your participation in your child's education.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions.
Also, Please remember that your child's "Random Acts of
Kindness" Assignment will be due Monday, February 2. For this assignment,
each child must complete any 2 R.A.K.'s they can think of and write at least
ONE PARAGRAPH about EACH R.A.K. (If you include pictures, they will count 5
pts. Extra Credit.) This Assignment will count as two grades. One grade
will be used in Bible for completion of the R.A.K.'s. The other grade will
be a Language grade and will be graded based on neatness and correct use of
Grammar, Capitalization, and Punctuation in their written paragraphs. Please
help your child with this Assignment. I think it will be a great way for you
to discuss sharing Christ's love with others with your child. Thanks so much
for your continued support and participation!! I think it is going to be a
great year!!
In Christ,

Amanda Meek
