Coach Herron's Grading and Classroom Behavior/Management Plan
Grading Policy
Students earn grades through various procedures and evaluations in my class.
My class is based on the following Social Studies curriculum
themes...Geography (75 percent), Government/History/Economics/Civics
(25 percent).
Students will be working heavily on building basic geographic skills and we
will do LOTS of map and map skill builder activities in my class. Therefore,
mapping will constitute 1/4 of each six-weeks grade. In addition to mapping,
students will earn 1/4 of their grade from chapter and unit tests, 1/4 from
homework and classwork activities, and 1/4 from group and classroom
participation activities. I will DROP THE LOWEST TEST GRADE each six-weeks
and I also give students the chance to earn extra credit throughout the
year. Please e-mail me with any questions or concerns you might have about
grades.
Classroom Managenemt
I am a firm believer in giving and earning respect with ALL students and co-
workers. My classroom is student-centered and I usually don't have any major
problems with behavior in my room. However, there's always a first time for
certain problems to arise and I will use discipline referrals to the office
if the need develops. I use a three-strike policy in my classroom. Unless
the offense is severe in nature, I will verbally warn the student of the
offense and have the student sign that he or she understands what the
offense was. If a second offense occurs, I will notify our administration of
the event and either e-mail, call, or send a letter to the
parents/guardians. If we have a third offense, I will send the student to
the office with a discipline referral form for punishment at the discretion
of Mr. Kind and Mr. Ray.
We also have a classroom three-strike policy. Students will be given the
opportunity to participate in several weekly or bi-weekly activities that
enhance learning my goals and objectives. In order for a class to earn this
opportunity, they must have all three X's on the board. If an X is missing,
the class will work as usual and no activity will be allowed. As lons as
each class completes their assignments and no behavior problems are noted,
no X will be lost. If the class is too loud and unruly, an X will be taken
off.
