Can I pull my grade up with extra credit?

A student can always do extra credit if the work involved helps
the student
to learn the science. The extra credit must be from a chapter
which is being
studied or has been studied.

EXTRA CREDIT What are some things I can do for extra credit?

Extra credit is always a method that a good student can use to
learn more and pull up their grade. It must be an activity that
will cause the student to learn that which is being studied.
Posters, reports, book reports, power point presentations,
experiments and
demonstrations, vocabulary flash cards, and even interviews of
experts have been used as
special learning activities- commonly called 'extra credit'.
NOTE: Down loading a report from the web is not extra learningon
your part. A third grader could type in a word and click
print. You must do your research and write your report - not
just "download" and print.

I had an A in Science last year but don't this year. Why?

Are you turning in all of your required work? Are you putting in
the extra
time required in 8th grade? Have you gone back to the teacher
for help in
understanding your problem? Each student will have a different
reason for
their low grade. But it is good to star working on the problem
now rather
than later.

Will we have projects to do each six weeks?

No. But you will have to oportunity to pick from a list of
projects which
will be given out in lab.

Will we take any fun trips?

Any trip that we take will be fun if you have the right
attitude. All trips
are for educational purposes.

Why do we not have any free time in class?

Students have time to socialize in the hall, during lunch,
before and after
school, but we do not have time in class.

Why can't we write notes in class?

Look at question nine. Not only are you off task when you are
writing a
note, but you are involving at least one other person. Students
would
naturally rather read a note just passed to them than to pay
attention to
the learning activity being conducted in the class.

Can we chew gum in class?

When gum is chewed in such a manner as to not be a distraction
to others, it
will be allowed. Being impolite or disposing of gum improperly
will result
in
loss of the privilege for the class. Please keep it in your
mouth. Don't
blow
bubbles or pull on it. This is a distraction and is not sanitary.

Does a project really count as much as 4 test?

No. Not in my class.

Why can't we sleep in class if we are finished?

We are never finished. Go to bed at a reasonable time at home
and you will
not feel the need to sleep in class. Refer to Class Procedures #
13.
