Classroom Procedures

 

Mrs. Carpenter’s Procedures

Voyagers

2009-2010

 

Absences

  • Talk to Mrs. Carpenter on your first day back to class.
  • See Mrs. Carpenter’s web page for assignments.
  • Turn in your make-up work within three days or a zero will be given.  Talk to Mrs. Carpenter for an extension.

 

Binders

  • Organize your Math binder with dividers using the following system:
    1. Classroom Procedures/Code of Conduct
    2. Daily Work
    3. Notes
    4. Homework
    5. Tests/Quizzes
  • Place everything behind the correct divider.
  • Put clean notebook paper at the end of the binder.
  • Organize daily.
  • You will receive a test grade for your organization at the end of each six weeks.  We will clean out the binder at the end of each six weeks.
  • Always ask Mrs. Carpenter before discarding papers.

 

Calculators

  • Use only assigned calculator.
  • Clear memory at the end of each class period.
  • Return to appropriate section at the end of each class.

 

Checking

  • Trade papers with a student near you. 
  • Use red pen for checking any work.
  • Place small X’s by each incorrect problem.  Do not write correct answer.  No checks by correct problems.
  • Write number correct over total number of problems by the student’s name.  Sign your name or initials next to grade.

 

Class-Beginning

  • Pick up assigned calculator then go directly to your seat and stay seated.
  • Get ready for class by getting out binder, planner, textbook, workbook, journal, pencils, red pen, homework, and reading book.  Leave all other items in your locker.
  • Start quietly working on Daily Work, reading a book or completing other assignments when finished.

 

Class-During

  • Follow classroom procedures.
  • Follow directions the first time they are given and obey immediately.
  • Stay in your seat unless you have permission otherwise.
  • Raise your hand and wait for permission before speaking.
  • No leaving the classroom unless it is an emergency.  If you leave, you must receive permission, sign-out, and take hall pass. 

 

Class-End

  • Record any unfinished homework in planner and file notes, homework, and other papers.
  • Turn in any completed homework to drawer by due date.
  • Return calculator to assigned slot. 
  • Make sure textbooks are under your desk. 
  • Wait to be dismissed by teacher.
  • Take all materials and personal items with you.

 

Correcting Homework

  • Write correct answers on a separate piece of paper, showing work.  Do not erase incorrect answers. 
  • Turn in corrections stapled to the front of previously graded assignment in drawer.
  • Corrections must be made within three days of receiving graded assignment.

 

Finish Early

  • Work on unfinished assignments.
  • Check Power School.
  • Work on other homework or read a book.
  • Stay quiet so others can finish.

 

Format of Paper

  • Record your first and last name, date, and assignment on the top of the page. 
  • Always write the problem and show your work.  Problems will be counted incorrect if this is not done
  • Write problems down, not across.  You may have two columns, if problems allow.  Use front and back of paper.
  • Skip a line after each answer.
  • Put your name on each piece of paper and staple together. 

 

 

 

Group Work

  • Work only with assigned group, unless you receive permission from Mrs. Carpenter. 
  • Place all group members names on each item turned in. 
  • Respect each group member and their ideas. 

 

Homework

  • Turn your work in to the assigned drawer on the day it is due, or the first day you return to school.  10 points will be taken off for each day late, with a zero given the third day. 
  • Use correct format for paper or points will be taken off.
  • Use pencil or 10 points will be taken off. 

 

Power School

  • Check at least twice a week to make sure you do not have missing assignments. 
  • No reminders will be given for missing assignments.

 

Quieting the class

  • When Mrs. Carpenter sounds the wind chimes

1.      FREEZE (Stop talking or working)

2.      Eyes on Mrs. Carpenter

3.      Listen

  • Remain quiet until you have permission to do otherwise.

 

Student Computer

  • Use only with permission from Mrs. Carpenter.
  • Check only Power School unless you have permission.
  • Do not change any settings on computer.

 

Tests/Quizzes

  • Talking during a test/quiz, or before all tests/quizzes are turned in, will result in a zero.

 

Whiteboards

  • Write only problem we are working on in class.
  • Return board clean and marker with cap on.
