4. Create a physical features dictionary of terms on pages H10 and H11.  You 
must include a word definition as well as picture.  There are 26 terms on 
page H10 and H11.  Please add to the following to the list: 27. MESA, 28. 
BUTTE, 29. BADLANDS 30. WATERFALL 31. ICEBERG, AND 32. CATARACTS.  This 
visual dictionary is due 8/27 or 8/28.  IT COUNTS AS A MAJOR GRADE/PROJECT.

essential vocabulary in your notebook.  Create a graphic organizer of the 
five themes in notebook.  
3. View the brainpop on geography themes.  Take the quiz.  BRAINPOPS ARE 
VIEWED 2 TIMES DURING CLASS.  IF STUDENTS DO NOT SCORE WELL THEY CAN RETAKE 
THE QUIZ AT HOME, PRINT IT, AND HAVE IT SIGNED BY A PARENT TO REPLACE THE 
SCORE.  THE BRAINPOP PRINTOUT MUST BE TURNED IN TO THE MAKE-UP FOLDER BY THE

Odds using Smarties)  MAKING MATH CONNECTIONS
A. Students will count the smarties to get the total possibilities.  
Canada--white, USA--orange, Mexico--green, Bahamas--pink, Panama--yellow, 
Jamaica--purple
B. Students will then determine the simple probability of drawing out each of 
the countries.  Then, they will simplify.
C. Students will determine the ODDS of drawing out each country vs. not 
drawing out each country.  ODDS will be simplified as well.

1. Begin Alvin York movie.  Alvin York was a WWI hero from TN.  He was 
honored for capturing 132 German soldiers.  He was born and raised in the 
Cumberland region of TN near the KY border.  The film shows his simple life 
as a hard working farmer and then his transformation as a humble soldier who 
becomes a decorated WWI hero.  It also shows how hard it was to be a farmer 
in the mountain region and the mountain culture of the early 1900s.
