I have been a teacher for 17 years in the Bristol Tennessee City School
System. I taught fifth graders math and science at Central Elementary for
10 years. I am excited to be here at Vance for my seventh year teaching my
favorite subject - MATH!
Currently, I am working on my Master's degree in Mathematics with a
Specialization in Grades 6-8. I will finish this December. Each week I have
homework assignments and papers due on Wednesdays and Sundays.
I enjoy reading, singing, acting, and playing sports, especially tennis and
volleyball. I also like to take long walks. I sing with a group called
ACTS of Praise at Gethsemane Baptist Church where my Dad is the pastor. I
also spend a lot of my time attending my children's sporting events.
This summer, I had the most wonderful opportunity through the generosity of
the McGlothlin Foundation to take a trip to Europe. I visited Bulgaria,
Greece, Italy, France, Scotland, and England. I have tons of pictures and
stories that I plan to share with you this year. If I could, I would go back
tomorrow! I can't wait to travel again to other countries and learn about
different cultures.
I am married to Todd who is also a teacher and coach at Wallace Middle
School in the Washington County Virginia School System. He teaches 7th
grade Civics. He likes to play basketball and softball. He is a great
athlete.
I have four children - Austin (17), Keely (15), Caleb (13), and Eden (10).
All of my children are so adorable and smart. (I am not the least bit
biased.) They all love to play sports: tennis, soccer, basketball, baseball
and golf.
Austin plays basketball at Tennessee High. He likes to golf in his free time
and works with my cousins making pottery and going to craft shows.
Keely plays soccer, basketball, and softball as a freshman at Tennessee
High. She was very busy this past summer with all kinds of practices,
camps, and games. In her free time, she loves to baby-sit the little babies
in our family, read, play sports, text message, and listen to music.
Caleb is in 7th grade here at Vance. He is on the Visionary team and will
have my Mom as his math teacher. His is a great basketball player. He will
play here at Vance. He is also very good at baseball and soccer, but I am
not sure if he will play those at Vance or not. In his free time, he plays
his video games, shoots basketball, and hangs out with friends.
Eden is the baby of the family and is in 4th grade at Holston View. She
likes to play soccer and basketball. She plans to play softball next summer
instead of baseball. Eden loves to baby-sit the babies in our family, sing,
play the piano, ride her bike, talk to our neighbors who are like
grandparents to her, read, and cuddle with her Mommy.
I have a black lab named Midnight who is 9 years old. She is the best
listener in my house. She loves to ride in the car and sits in a seat like
my kids. When we take her with us when we play tennis, she likes to find mud
puddles to lay in. Then my kids have to walk her home through the creek
because I won't let her in the car.
My mission is to create a safe, non-threatening, respectful environment
where students are engaged, empowered, encouraged, educated, and expected to
overcome challenges to learn to the best of their abilities. Students will
learn standards of mathematics, but more importantly, standards for
character, citizenship, and leadership. Students will see me as a guide, a
role model, and an advocate for their success.
