Homework

10/26/09 Grammar I (4 lessons) and Research (1 lesson) are due this Wed.,
October 28. You did not have Lang Arts homework Tues., Wed., or Thurs. last
week, so you should have been working on Study Islands all last week. This
is also your homework for Mon and Tues this week. Be sure they are completed
by Wed.

10/16/09 Have the rough draft of your O. Henry paper in class Monday. The
paper needs to be 5 paragraphs with 3 points (Intro, 3 points, Conclusion).
Rough drafts do NOT have to be presentation quality. You may ask general
questions for the whole class about the paper on Monday. The final O. Henry
paper is due Tuesday, Oct. 20. Final papers should be in presentation
quality format.

10/16/09 Be ready for another linking verb/helping verb test on Monday. Be
able to list both sets of words.

10/14/09 O. Henry notes from 3 different sources (textbook, webpage we
worked on today in the computer lab, and a source of your choice) are due in
class on Friday, Oct. 16. Be sure you have them in class ON FRIDAY so you
can complete class assignments and begin working on your paper. Friday will
be the only class time you will have to work on it. The paper will be due
Tues., Oct. 20.

10/14/09 Grammar I Study Islands (4 lessons) are due Wed., Oct. 28.

10/6/09 Test over Linking Verbs and Helping Verbs - Thurs., Oct. 8
Be able to write and spell correctly all of the linking verbs and helping
verbs on the word list you received in class.

10/1/09 The Grammar and Usage test has been changed from Friday (tomorrow)
to Tues., Oct. 6.

10/1/09 Due to the computer lab being down on Wed. and not being able to go
to the lab to work on Study Island, the Story Elements (5 lessons) deadline
has been extended to Monday, Oct. 5.

9/28/09 We will be working on WB pp. 77-88 today and after other assignments
throughout the week. These pages will also be your homework all week. Work
on enough sentences each night that you have all pages finished by Friday.
You need to:
     1. Put parentheses around prep phrases.
     2. Underline subjects once and verbs twice.
     3. Identify and circle complements (direct objects - DO, predicate
nouns - PN,predicate adjectives - PA) and put IO above indirect
        objects.
     4. Tell whether action verbs are transitive or intransitive.
     5. Write parts of speech above all words in sentence.

9/28/09 Test Friday over Grammar - identifying parts of speech and how words
are used in sentences (what we have been working on in class), and correct
word usage - WB pp. 219-229 completed for sub.

9/25/09 The sentence sheet we have been working on all week is due Monday.
You need to complete both sides with all of the parts we have been finding in
the sentences. Be sure to follow the steps in your notes (DRN Notebook) and
use the definition and word sheets when you need them. Remember that Study
Island Story Eelements are due Sept. 30.

9/22/09 Be sure to have WB pgs. 219-224 that you did with the substitute
Monday completed and ready to check tomorrow (Wed.). Be sure you did both
parts of the assignment - writing the correct definition and making your
answer choice.

9/20/09 Study Island Story Elements - 5 Lessons - Due September 30.
Remember that you need to put the lesson up and read it before working on the
questions, and you need to do all of the possible items available the first
time you work on the lesson. You may then do as many items as you want to do
to get the grade you want. You must do at least the total possible items for
the lesson to get a grade.

9/9/09 Book Reviews are due Friday, September 18. The Book Review grades
will count toward your 2nd 6 weeks grade (not 1st 6 weeks). You may turn
them in earlier if you get them finished.

9/8/09 All Literary Elements Study Island lessons are due today. Tonight is
the last night to work on these. Begin working on the Story Elements lessons
on Study Island as you have time and when you do not have other LA homework.

9/8/09 Make a study guide for the Story Elements test on Thursday. Be sure
to include all definitions, plot line points, anything that was starred or
highlighted as we took notes, and a written plot for a story. Due Wed.,
Sept. 9.

9/4/09 Have your library books read for your book review by Friday, Sept.
11. I will give you the guidelines for completing your review on or before
Sept. 11.

9/4/09 The Story Elements Test will be Thursday, Sept. 10. Be sure you have
any notes you missed before Wednesday, Sept. 9, so you have them to study for
the test, and so you are ready for me to check them for a grade.

9/1/09 Study Island - Literary Elements - 3 Lessons - Due Tues., Sept. 8.
Students need to complete all of the possible questions for each lesson to
get a grade; then they can work as many items as needed to get their grade
where they want it to be. They need to be sure to work on the Study Island
assignments during times when they do not have other Lang. Arts homework.
They will not have other LA homework (unless they are not completing targets
at school)this week.

8/28/09 This is your lucky day! You get to take your first language arts
test of the year. It is your opportunity to show me and you what you know.
You will need to know your definitions, be able to tell what literary
elements are used in examples, and use literary elements in your writing.
Study and be prepared. Make the most of every opportunity that comes your
way!

8/25/09 Complete back of literary elements study guide (definitions) before
class Thursday. Study and know all of your definitions (learn key word in
definitions to help you identify the correct terms). On Thursday we will
identify the examples on the other side in class. You can use the paper as a
study guide for the test. The completed paper is due Friday.

8/19/09 Race Weekend in Bristol papers are due Tuesday, August 25. Students
should receive no help with this assignment so I get a good idea of where
their writing skills are.
Criteria: 5 paragraphs (Intro, 3 points, Conclusion)
Include at least 5 different literary elements in paper
(Elements must be identified by underlining and telling
what kind of literary element it is.)
Presentation Quality - Pay attention to the way your work
looks (i.e. blue or black ink, paragraphs, neatness)

8/17/09 Remember that your Museum of Me projects are due tomorrow (Tues.,
Aug. 18). Also remember to get your permission forms in for the Field Trip
to the Park on Wednesday.
