October 27: We are working on our "Hollis Woods in a Bag" project in class.

Also, today we began a quick study on Edgar Allan Poe for Halloween. Tonight
students will be doing an "open search" webquest biography on Edgar Allan
Poe. Each student was given a stanza from his famous poem "Annabel Lee" to
memorize.

October 26: "The Monsters Are Due On Maple Street": Read as a class from
Literature book. Page 755
Answer Discussion Questions page 776 1-5 and page 777 Vocabulary Builder
To find the definitions for the Vocabulary Exercise turn to page 754.

October 20: We are working on an in-class project covering our classroom
novel " A Picture of Hollis Woods."
The project is called Hollis Woods in A Bag. To see all the project outline

October 1: Computer Lab- Study Island has been assigned with 2 different
categories. Do no more than 30 questions per assignment. The two assignmets
are titled " GENRES" and "THEME."

We will be working on an in-class foldable project learning 4 different verb

September 17: A new My Skills Tutor assignment will begin today. Work on it
each day for a few minutes and you will finish quickly! The assignment
is "Usage- Language Arts" (6th period Usage B) This will cover all the parts
of speech. We have already covered several of these in class.

September 16: "Forgive My Guilt" poem. We will read and anlyze this inspiring
poem about making choices. Discussion of theme, setting, imagery, and of
course, figurative language that is used throughout poem.
I hope everyone finished your My Skills Tutor Comprehension A (6th period-
Comprehension B) Grades have been recorded.

September 15: Don't forget your Reading Goal Book Report is due today! It
must be in the 5 point paragraph essay format.

September 14: Discussion and notes on sound devices (onomatopoeia, end rhyme,

August 17: Today we will "hopefully" be able to check out a library book.
All
students need a book for our First Six Weeks Reading Goal. Students will
begin an essy about "What do they expect from Language Arts, etc......"

August 18: Notes on "Plot Diagram." We will learn 5 definitions that go
along
with the plot diagram. Students will create their own plot diagram in class.
Each class will be given a fairy tale to read at home and create a second
plot diagram.

August 19: Computer Lab- Preview test on Language Arts.
Review in class notes on "plot."

August 20: Brain Pop: Nouns activity and quiz
Notes on conflict ( internal and external conflict)

August 24: More types of conflict- Person vs. Person, Person vs. Nature,
Person vs. Environment, Person vs. Technology
- Begin reading/ work on the short story, "The Amigo Brothers"

**2nd,3rd, and 4th period will begin reading a classroom novel
titled "Picture of Hollis Woods."
Short writing activity- What does the quote " A picture is worth a thousand
words" mean to you?

**6th period- "Animal Farm" We will begin reading a classroom novel today.
Notes will be taken on: irony, satire, allegory, and vice.
Read Chapter 1 and answer discussion questions.
Over the weekend, read Chapter 2 and answer discussion questions

Discussion and notes on symbolism, flashback, and foreshadowing.
We will discuss examples of how our classroom novels use symbolism,
flashback, and foreshadowing.

September 3: Computer Lab- Review of "How to use Power School." Please make
sure you use this tool to your advantage daily:)
My Skills Tutor- Comprehension A (2nd,3rd, and 4th period)
                 Comprehension B (6th period)
Work your way through these skills. I will be taking various grades on them
next Tuesday. Please make it ALL the way through the Post Test.

September 8: Took notes on the "5 point paragraph essay." Please use these

your reading goal this week. The Reading Goal is due next Tuesday, September
15.
