Is school attendance in Kindergarten important?
Your child's regular and prompt attendance at school is crucial to his/her
success. I can't emphasize this enough! Most Kindergarten learning
activities are group oriented and involve interaction with classmates.
Therefore, it is next to impossible to make up work at home. Please view
school as priority, and see to it that your child attends every day except
in cases of illness or emergency.
How should I send money to school?
Always send money in a sealed envelope with the following information
written on it:
1. Your child's first and last name
2. The amount of money
3. The purpose for the money (lunch, snack, book fair, etc)
4. Teachers name and grade (Ms. Cindy -K)
5. Your child's name on the check if it is different from your name
What should my child wear to school?
We will be going out for recess every day unless it is raining or extremely
cold. Please keep this in mind when helping your child select clothing for
the day. For your child's safety, tennis shoes must be worn during P.E.
classes. Ours is on Monday. If your child wears sandals or some other
shoes to school, send a pair of tennis shoes with them in their backpack so
they can change shoes and be able to participate safely in P.E. activities
for that day. Otherwise, they will not be able to participate in P.E.
activities for that day.
How should I send Medication to school?
Teachers are not allowed to administer any medication. This includes
Tylenol or cough syrup. If your child is on medication, an Adult must bring
the doctor's orders with the medication to our school nurse. Be sure to
note any health problems on student information forms. DO NOT SEND
MEDICATION IN BACK PACKS WITH STUDENTS.
What do I do If my child has to miss a day of school?
We encourage regular attendance and punctuality. Kindergarten is mandatory
and absences and tardies are reported on cumulative records, grade cards,
and to(if excessive)our attendance supervisor. We do not expect/want you to
send your child to school when he/she is sick. Be sure to send an excuse
with your child when they return to school. Your child is allowed only 3
home notes a semester, so please remember to get an excuse when you take
them to the Dr.
Transportation?
Make sure that I know how your child will get home from school each day. I
will follow the transportation written on the enrollment sheet. If this
changes, I must have a note or a phone call (you may leave a message in the
office) from the parent. Please do not have your child tell me. Sometimes
children get confused and I do not want to send him/her on the wrong bus or
have them miss their bus.
On some occasions school is dismissed early (weather related or other). We
are unable to use the phone to call you so please keep this in mind and make
your plans.
What if my child needs some extra help?
If your child is struggling, we offer after school intervention for
Kindergarten. Plateau Home School in Lancing also has a wonderful after
school program. If you would like more information please contact me.
What can I do to celebrate my child's birthday at school?
Feel free to send in a treat for your child's birthday. Our class loves
goodies! If you wish to bring in party stuff we have snack at 1:30 in the
lunch room (just let me know). Children with summer birthdays can decide to
celebrate at the end of the school year in May.
What can I do to help my child's learning at home?
READ, READ, READ every night (or as often as possible) for at least 20
minutes!
Read over the weekly folder each weekend then sign and return each Monday.
Practice sight words (reading and spelling them) each week.
**Make learning fun - if you are excited about what they are doing they will
be too!!
