We have now finished all the letters!!! We will be focusing on reading and
writing.
You can practice at home by giving your child a word and asking them to tell
you a complete sentence using that word.
Popcorn Words:
Popcorn words(sight words)are words that keep "popping up" around us.
They are high frequency words that are repeated often in books and
environmental print. These words will help us to become more fluent readers
and writers. We will be studying a couple of words a week. I am sending
home a Popcorn Word Flashcard Ring which we will be adding new words to each
week and this is a good way for you to practice them at home. Please help
your child find a bookshelf or special place to keep the flashcard ring so
they may practice often and add the new words I will be sending home in the
Friday Behavior folder each week. Each of these words will also be added to
our classroom Word Wall. The children will be able to use the Word Wall
while they write in their journals. Each word will be introduced using
activities such as chanting, spelling, writing them on dry erase boards and
playing games.
