About The Teacher

Coach Shoemaker began his teaching and coaching career in Gainesboro,
Tennessee at Fox Middle School. After his student teaching, he worked for
Plateau Mental Health Center as an Alcohol and Drug Intervention Specialist
in Clay County. During that time in Celina, he was mobilized in support of
Operation Desert Storm and taught at the United States Army Field Artillery
School.

After completing his Master's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction, Coach
Shoemaker was hired to teach at Wartburg Central Elementary School in the
Fall of 1992. There he taught 7th grade Life Science, Geography and
Tennessee History. He also was an assistant football coach at the high
school and boys basketball coach for the elementary school.

The next year, Coach Shoemaker moved to the high school where he taught
physical science, biology, material science, world history and government.
After teaching in Morgan County for 10 years, he left and moved to Orange
County, North Carolina to become the Senior Instructional Technology
Specialist for SERVE, Inc. In that capacity, he provided support, training,
and technical assistance to schools, districts and state departments of
education across the Southeast. After doing that job for a year and a half,
he returned to coaching and teaching at Cedar Ridge High School in
Hillsborough, N.C. There he taught earth and environmental science,
economic-legal and political systems, honors world history, and civics.

In the summer of 2005, Coach Shoemaker and his family came home to East
Tennessee and he is currently teaching Environmental Science, Ecology, and
Physical Science. He also serves as the head football coach.

Classroom Expectations

Good Behavior is expected during classtime. My students are eager to be
treated as adults and as such, must accept the responsibilty that comes with
such treatment. My rules for class are limited and straight forward. They
also count on students knowing appropriate behavior can vary depending on
location and task. For example, talking within your work group is a needed
part of the learning process, talking during the video or notes is a
distraction. As such, the rules for my class are as follows.

1. Respect is a 2 way street. We must treat each other with respect.

2. Do what you are supposed to do when you are supposed to do it!!!

3. The Golden Rule!!
