Why should I study French?

Ten top reasons to Study French:

1.  French is the second most frequently taught language in the world after 
English.

2.  French is the only language other than English spoken on five continents.

3.  In a recent listing of international jobs distributed by the US State 
Department: 92 required or preferred French, 21 a UN language (Arabic, 
Chinese, English, French, Russian, and Spanish), 38 Spanish, 6 Russian, 3 
Arabic, 4 German, 2 other languages.

4.  More than 1,200 French companies have subsidiaries in the U.S., and 
France is the largest recipient of U.S. foreign investment.

5.  Approximately half of English vocabulary comes from French.

6.  French is the foreign language spoken by our largest trading partner 
(Canada).

7.  In 2000, the United States exported more to countries having French as a 
national language than to countries having any other foreign language. 
Exports to Canada alone in that year were greater than the combined exports 
to all countries south of the United States.

8.  In 1994 the United States did business and trade with the following 
countries in order to importance: 1. French-speaking countries; 2. Japan; 3. 
Spanish-speaking countries.

9.  French companies employ over 400,000 Americans.
