Mon- Pages 6-10 in textbook.  Look at how early peoples used Beringia, a land 
bridge, to cross from Siberia over into North America.  Cover artifacts that 
document this migration.  Illustrate weapons and technologies they used along 
the way.  Describe 3 ways farming may have been discovered. What changes did 
farming bring? SS # 8.3.spi.1, 8.3.spi.2, 8.3.spi.3, and 8.1.spi.6.

environment.  Higher order question: Which group appears to be the last to 
cross Bering ice Bridge, and how can you tell?  Powerpoint over Native 
american cultures and adaptations.  12 "powerful Words" - definitions, word 
search and crosswrod puzzle.
Tues- Introduce Aztec, Maya, Olmec, and Inca. Collect Native American g/o.
Wed- Finish reading articles over Maya, Olmec, Aztec, and Inca.  Allow time 
to Work on Reteaching Activity 1-2.
Thur- View a Powerpoint presentation over Early American Civilizations.  
Introduce Marco Polo and his impact on "Age of Exploration".  Primary Sources 
versus Secondary Sources. 
Fri- Flow chart.  Summarize a reading over Marco Polo using a reading 
strategy. All of the main ideas contributed to the "Age of Exploration".  
Ideas are categorized into 1 of 4 groups: Inspiration, Education, Innovation, 
and motivation.  They occur in the reading in this order. 

August 31st - September 4th

tornadoes per state. Give a quiz with higher order qiestions over the map.

resources in both groups.  Look at what make each fit into a particular 
group.  From this activity, list the various types of electrical production 
and discuss the pros and cons of each.

at population rates.  Many trends point to electrical shortages in the 
future.  Compare the number of electrical appliances today and 20-30 years

either rationing or higher rates pass a specific point would occur.  Using 
higher order thinking eliminate all but five appliances to conserve 
elecetricity.

lead to the "Age of Exploration".  Explain with examples the definition for

7th Grade World Geography
Mon- Labor Day Holiday
Tues- Look at the top 5 items from Friday.  How would life change with 
electrical rationing?  This would lead to deforestation, climate change, 
desertification, etc.  Powerpoint presentation if time allows showing actual 
pictures of glaciers melting, both from Earth and photos from Space.
Wed- Powerpoint presentation if time allows showing actual 
pictures of glaciers melting, both from Earth and photos from Space.  Cover 
terms: Urbanization, weather, climate, weathering, deforestation, green house 
gases, desertification, ozone, famine, urban, suburban, and rural.  Discuss 
all their inter-raletionships.  Show some news footage over polar-ice caps 
melting.
Thur- Graphic Organizer over the 8 traits of culture.  Explain how each 
culture has these 8 traits, and that there are 8 major culture groups around 
the world.  Use the gangster culture as our example, without glorifying any 
of their actions.
Fri- Presentation over the events surrounding 9-11.  Graphic organizer with 
facts of the event.

8th Grade U.S. History

Mon- Finish discussing culture and the eight traits of culture using a 
graphic organizer on the board.
Tues- Pages 3, 4, 6, 7, and 8 in workbook.  Use as a review for approaching 
test.  Topics include the water cycle, ocean currents, culture regions of the 
world, renewable and non-renewable resources, and landformations of the 
United States.
Wed- Allow time to complete workbook pages 3,4,6,7, and 8.
Thur- Grade workbook pages. Intoduce Developed, developing, and third world 
countries.
Fri- Hand-out over developed, developing and third world countries. Pages 91-
94.  Define each term, give examples of each type of country.  Discuss how 
life expectancies can show the quality of life and how clean a country's 
water system is can show their placement in one of the three diifferent 
groups.  List the percentage of resources used by the group compared to 
percentage of world population each group contains.  This comparison shows a 
lop-sided relationship.  Developed nations use 85% of resources while only 
making up 5% of the world's population.  Draw student's names to determine 
who is the developed, developing, and third world countries.  1 "developed' 
student gets $1.70, 2 "developing"students get $.10, and the rest of 
the "third world" students get a penny.

Mon- Profile of a world leader.  Students use the clues to find the leader.  
Clues: Rocky Mts., Great Lakes, Great Plains, Baffin Island, Hudson 
Bay,Parliamentary democracy, mixture of Christian/Catholic, Bilingual, #1 
trading partner with the U.S., lumber, iron ore, autos, grain, Niagara 
Falls.  Assign a worksheet with all the various landformations.  Students 
draw a small illustration of the first five (5), give five (5) specific 
examples of each one.
Tues- Grade profile of a world leader- Stephen Harper.  Assign 5 more 
landforms to illustrate and give examples.
Wed- Work on Landformation sheet.  Discuss the differences between various 
landformations that are similiar.
Thur- Matching worksheet over landformations, and complete all landformations 
on worksheet
