About The Teacher

I have been teaching Resource classes K-12 since 1989. I taught at Lebanon
High, TuckersCrossroad Elem, and Watertown Jr. and High school. I have also
worked with students birth - three years of age for Prospect Child
Development Center and Tennessee Early Intervetion Services in Nashville and
Upper Cumberland area. This is my 10th year to teach here at WHS. They
have
been consecutive for the last 6 years. I enjoy teaching and love to work
with students who need extra help! I try to teach each day as a new day and
hope that the students can learn something that I teach them to carry with
them for their future.
I graduated from Middle Tennessee State University with a Bachelor of
Science
in Special and Elementary Ed. I attended Cumberland University 2 years
before transfering to MTSU. I also attended MTSU for 2 1/2 years beginning
in
2000 to recieve my certification.

Mission For The Class

I hope that each student can be successful in reaching their goal to pass
the
classes that they have me for. Coming to class daily and completing all in
class and missed work is very important. The main focus this semester is
the Reading and English 3 & 4. IN Reading we are working to be better
readers and to learn how to sound out words that are difficult. We also
listen to books on tape and read aloud to work on our reading skills.
Comprehension is a big part in all subject areas and it is helpful to work
on reading skills for each area. In our English classes we are focusing on
the Lifeskills activities to help after high school. In Jr. English we are
focusing on the 5 paragraph essay to help with the writing assessment that
will be offered in the Spring. Students are given a writing prompt and
asked to write. The students have been given examples and are given help if
needed. They have papers to help them in writing. We will continue
practice the whole semester. The students in Jr. and Sr. English are also
using the Kuder Assessment to help in areas of careers and jobs. This can
be accessed thru www.planningyourdreams.com or www.kuder.com. The students
have a certain code to use. This is also helpful to apply for scholarships
and to help look up information needed for schooling or careers.
