Plagiarism

Plagiarism will not be tolerated. My students must sign an honor code that states the following:

Ms. Cantrell expects the highest standards of honesty, ethical behavior, responsibility and self-discipline from all of her students. To promote these values and protect everyone's right to a fair education and to specify behaviors contrary to these standards, this Academic Code of Conduct has been established.

As a student in Ms. Cantrell's English class, I understand that I am responsible for my own learning and behavior and know that cheating and plagiarism are unacceptable.

Cheating includes, but is not limited to

1. Looking on someone else's paper, or allowing someone to see one's paper during a test or quiz or on a homework assignment.

2. Using cheat notes/cheat sheets while taking a test or quiz.

3. Copying assigned work that has been assigned to be done independently or letting others copy one's work.

4. Providing others with test/quiz information or receiving test/quiz information from someone else.

5. Purchasing papers, downloading papers or hiring or allowing someone to write a paper for you.

Plagiarism includes, but is not limited to

1. Using another person's ideas, opinions, or theories without documenting.

2. Using any facts, statistics, graphs, drawings--any piece of information--that are not common knowledge without documenting.

3. Copying another person's actual spoken or written words without documenting.

4. Paraphrasing another person's spoken or written words without documenting.

5. Downloading papers or parts of papers from a website and turning them in as your own.

The consequences for plagiarism and cheating are the following:

1. First incident: "0" on work; teacher calls home; one thirty-minute detention

2. Second incident: "0'" on work; teacher calls home; two thirty-minute detentions

3. Third incident: "0" on work; administrative referral.
