Frequently Asked Questions: This page contains answers to common questions of students and parents.
What can I do to help my child succeed in fifth grade?
In fifth grade, organization is key to success. Daily assignments in each class are written on the whiteboard, and students are instructed at that time to write in their agendas. Check your child's agenda to insure he is taking down assignments. In my courses, I encourage students to write down the assignment even if they've finished in class. This allows parents an inside view to our classroom. Another thing you can do is to encourage independence. As fifth grade teachers, we are preparing them for the middle school: it's a whole new ballgame! We encourage our students to be responsible for themselves and their assignments.Back to Top

How can I help my child be successful in Math?
Thus far, multiplication facts seem to be the biggest challenge. Knowing these facts is a necessary skill for many new fifth grade math skills. Knowing them quickly allows students to complete assignments in a timely manner. Encourage your child to use flashcards to improve his speed.Back to Top

What about extra credit?
Extra credit is rarely given by fifth grade teachers. If students turn in assignments on time, most will be successful. Extra credit will not be a consideration when there are missing assignments.Back to Top

When can we meet to discuss my child?
I am available for conferences before or after school and during my planning time (1:10 - 2:00). Additionally, we can "conference" via email or by telephone: AmbrusterC@wcschools.com or 758-5846. Should you email me, please put your child's name in the subject line. Non- school system emails automatically go into a spam folder and having your child's name in the subject line allows me to "whitelist" your email account.Back to Top
