Things to Know!

Agendas
Please check your child's agenda every night. The agenda
and will be our best form of communication between school and
home. Your child will receive a stamp in the agenda for each day of
positive behavior. If your child does not receive a stamp for that day, I
will briefly explain that day's "situation" using a different stamp.

Lunch
Lunch is $1.50 a day/$7.50 per week. You may send money daily, weekly, or
monthly with your child. Please send money on Mondays whenever possible.
All checks should be made out to West Elementary Cafeteria, and should
include the child’s name, teacher’s name, and lunch code ID number. Cash
should always be sent in an envelope labeled with the child’s name, teacher
name and lunch code.
** Please put any money sent to school in the front pocket of the agenda
clearly marked with what the money is for.**
If your child was in Wilson County last year, they should already
have a code number which must be used every time they buy anything from the
cafeteria. It should be the same number as last year. If your child is new
to Wilson County, they will get a number from the cafeteria soon. They must
know this number by memory, and be able to push it in by themselves. (The
keypad resembles a telephone keypad, so you might want to practice at home.)

Snack
We have snack everyday. Please send in healthy snacks only- no
candy or soda.

When Your Child is Absent
When your child is absent, you must write an excuse note and place
it in the front pocket of your child’s agenda. Please write this note on a
separate piece of paper (not in agenda), so it can easily be sent to our
attendance secretary.
Make up work may be requested at any time. Please email or leave a
voicemail if you’d like to pick up work the day your child is out.
Otherwise, make-up work will be sent home the day your child returns to
school.

Class Website
Please check our class website for updated news and announcements. Homework
letter will also be posted on the class website.

Dress Code
Students must wear dress code clothing everyday. Please remember
that teachers did not make the dress code policy, we are just required to
enforce it. For a complete copy of the dress code, you can go to the Wilson
County Schools website, www.wcschools.com.

Homework
All homework should be completed in pencil, unless directions
indicate otherwise. Please return homework the next day in the front pocket
of your child's agenda.

Grading System
The grading system for first grade is as follows:
S or S- = Indicates appropriate development
N = Skill has not yet been mastered, but child is working toward mastery
U = Child is not making the progress necessary to move on to the next skill
Incomplete = Child was not able to complete in class. Please complete at
home and return the next school day.
Redo = Child needs to redo the assignment at home and turn in the next
school day.

Change in Dismissal
If there is a change in the way your child normally goes home, you must
notify me in writing via note or email, or call the school. It is
UNACCEPTABLE for the child to simply tell me of the change.

Change of Clothes
I do not require, however I do recommend keeping a change of dress
code clothing in your child’s backpack at all times. Accidents happen!
