Please use your Kroger cards. They're a one of the best resources for our
class. If you don't have a Kroger card you can get one from the PTO.

Ms Phillips's Homework Note January 6, 2010

Welcome back to school. I hope you all had a very happy holiday. There is
winter weather in the forecast for later in the week so please let me know if
your child's early dismissal transportation plan has changed since
enrollment. Although it's a short week I hope to cover quite a bit of
information with the class. We will be picking up the pace in third grade as
we forge toward T-CAP tests later in the spring.

The spelling lists are attached to the paper note that will go home Wednesday
and missed words are highlighted as usual. This weeks words have silent
consonants. We'll have a spelling test Friday.

These are the new words.
thumb gnaw written know climb design wrist crumb assign
wrench knot wrinkle lamb knob knit wrestler bologna
cologne honeycomb knickknack

Our story in reading is on volcanoes. It is nonfiction. I hope the class
will enjoy it. Please review the vocabulary words that will come home
Wednesday. We will have a selection test Friday.

We will begin chapter 6 in math. In this chapter we will collect and
organize data to determine the mean, median, range, and mode of a group of
numbers.

In English combine sentences by forming compound verbs. I hope to cover the
use of commas in dates and places this week as well.

In science we will finish chapter 2 and take a test either Thursday or Friday
over Chapter 2 lesson 3 on parents and young. There will be a study guide
going home Wednesday to prepare for this test. It deals with heredity and
how inherited and learned traits are acquired.

We will study map skills in social studies. I'd like to take a test Friday
over the social studies material as well.

Please be watching for report cards Thursday.
