I was born in Wilson County and have spend most of my life in or around this
area. I am the youngest of 3 children and grew up on the same farm my father
was raised on. I attended Carroll School, which had 3 rooms, until Christmas
of my 3rd grade year. My parents were officers of the PTO for Carroll and
worked hard to get a new school for us. I was one of the frist students at
Carroll-Oakland. I graduated from Lebanon High School and then attended
MTSU where I earned both my BS and MEd degrees.
After college I taught kindergarten for Lebanon Special Schools and then
homebound students in Davidson County. Following that experience I taught
juveniles in states custody for 5 years in Montgomery and Davidson counties.
During this time I earned my Special Education certification attending both
Austin Peay and TSU. I taught in a developmental preschool for a short time
before going to Smyrna High School to teach Developmental Math and Resource
Science. I taught 6 years here at West in the CDC classroom and 7 years
teaching homebound students in Wilson County. For the last two years I've
been teaching first grade. I have wanted to teach thrid grade since I came
back to public schools in 1999. I am thrilled to be in third grade this
year. I hope to stay at West until I retire.
My favorite form of communication is e-mail because it encourages me to
think before I speak which is something I believe most people should do more
often.
Much of my free time is spent in sports related activities. Softball and
baseball are my favorites. I
coach the women's softball team for my church and am a season ticket holder
for the Nashville Sounds. I am proud to have completed the Ceaders of Lebanon
Frostbite 1/2 marithon in 2009 and hope to walk in the 2010 Country Music 1/2
Marithon.
I also enjoy improving my home. I almost always have a to do list that
involves tile or paint. I love dogs and have two who keep me on my toes all
the time. I have found that they are not helpful with the home improvement
dispite their best efforts although they do a pretty good job digging holes
when I'm gardening. I don't like things that collect dust.
I want each of my students to grow more independant daily and strive to
prepare them for the place they will hold in society.
