May 5 - 9, 2008

Monday:  Copy DOS.  Finish Conservation discussion: Read The Great Kapok Tree, finish The Lorax video, and finish conservation lists.  Give back graded papers.  Discuss final in class project and give out instructions.  HW - write down your chosen biome and at least 10 ideas that you would like to incorporate into their project.  Students may start bringing in supplies for their diaroma.

Tuesday:  Do United States biome notes.  Glue note graphic organizer onto the right page and glue colored biome map onto the left page as the reflection.  Discuss End of Course Test.  Test will be Thursday, May 15th.  The grade will be worth 100 points and count only once.  Students will complete a review at home for the test.  Finish project instruction discussion.  Start biome research.  HW - start EOC review

Wednesday:  Work on biome research.  Copy DOS.  HW - bring box for diorama, study for DOS quiz, work on End of Course Test Review

Monday:  Copy Weekly agenda.  Work on "Flat Stanley" Scrapbooks.  HW - Bring scrapbook supplies for book (stickers, markers, colored pencils, stencils, etc.)

Tuesday:  Work on "Flat Stanley" Book.  Pick up biome coloring map.  HW - study for nonliving quiz, finish "Flat Stanley" book, bring needed supplies for science festival

Wednesday:  Study for nonliving quiz.  Take nonliving Quiz.  Watch short UnitedStreaming clip on ecology and biomes.  Students will take notes during the video in their INB.  Students will pick up the biome map coloring worksheet.  HW - Color biome map worksheet, bring needed supplies for science festival

Thursday:  Follow-up video with conservation discussion.  Read The Lorax and discuss the meaning of the story.  Discuss the human impact on the environment.  HW - bring needed supplies for science festival, Do reflection for video notes: Come up with 10 unique ideas for conservation that can be done in your house, discuss these with your parents and write a paragraph discussing these ideas, have your parents sign at the bottom showing they have discussed this with you.

April 21 - 25, 2008

Monday:  Copy DOS and weekly agenda.  Make non-living note book.  HW - Work on Ecosystem Photography Project

Tuesday:  Copy DOS.  Finish non-living note book.  Start "Lost at Sea" Activity.  HW - Work on Ecosystem Photography Project

Wednesday:  Copy DOS.  Do writing activity in the their non-living booklet.  They should pretend they are a water molecule going through water cycle.  Write a story about what a day in their life might be like. They will get 10 minutes to write in class.  If their book is finished, they will turn it in!  Work on "Lost at Sea" Activity. HW - Work on Ecosystem Photography Project, finish non-living book if not complete!

Thursday:  Copy DOS.  Students will have the entire class period to work on their "Lost at Sea" project.  This should be finished for homework if not complete because we have been working on it for 3 class periods now!  Just a few reminders about the project: drawings must be labeled and in color, the island illustration should have everything on their lists included, they must have another studnet and a parent evaluate the project!  HW - Finish Ecosystem Photography Project, Study for DOS quiz, finish "Lost at Sea" project (don't forget to do the student and parent evaluation)!

March 31 - April 4, 2008

Monday:  Copy Agenda, check March Ecology Project, and Check graphing worksheet.  Do ecology TCAP review together and discuss test taking skills.  HW - TCAP practice packet

March 10 - 14, 2008

Monday:  Copy agenda and have stamped.  Turn in moon phase worksheets not finished on Friday.  Work on test review.  When finished, update TOC and check over INB.  HW - Finish test review, study for test, get TOC and INB ready to be checked.

Tuesday:  Check test review and moon phase worksheets.  HW - Study for test over eclipses, moon phases, tides, and seasons.  Get INB and TOC ready to check.  Do 2 page reflection for test review (review goes in TOC not INB).

Wednesday: Turn in INB and TOC.  Take Earth/Moon Test over eclipses, tides, seasons, and moon phases!  Spring Picture Day!  HW - Students were given back a goal sheet where they wrote goals about science in early August.  Those have been returned and and they are reflecting on these goals.  At the bottom of the same page, they should write a paragraph (at least 5 sentences, but most will need more) answering the following questions.  Did I accomplish my goals?  Why or Why not?  What can I still do to improve?  What can I do to have a successful rest of the year?  What have I learned that I can use in 7th grade? (This will be taken up for a grade!)

Thursday:  Start ecology unit. Turn in goal paragraph.  Set up ecology vocabulary foldable.  Behavior Celebration for 3rd Nine Weeks.  HW - Go over pencil on foldable with marker, colored pencil, or colored pens (be ready to start doing definitions tomorrow).

Friday: Work on ecology vocabulary foldable.  Have a wonderful spring break!

March 3 - 7, 2008

Monday:  Copy DOS and agenda.  Students are given about 7 minutes to complete the "Reasons for Seasons" Worksheet that was started on Friday.  Check the worksheet.  Start notes on tides.  Glue in the given worksheet into the next right page of the INB for the tide notes to be taken on.  HW - Study the notes and diagrams in the INB on eclipses, seasons, and tides.

Tuesday:  Copy DOS.  Give back papers, students file into their TOC.  Finish the notes on tides in the INB.  Assign the March ecology project and glue into the INB.  Assign extra credit opportunity to view the stars at UT on the first and third Friday's of the month.  HW - Do a tic-tac-toe reflection in the INB for the tide notes.  Study the notes and diagrams in the INB on eclipses, seasons, and tides.

Wednesday:  Copy DOS.  Show a tide demonstration.  Copy two additional tide diagrams on tides in the INB with the tide notes.  Discuss tides and ask any final questions.  Work on "Tide Talk" worksheet.  Go over worksheet together in class.  HW - Do a reflection of their choice for the February ecology project.  In the reflection, must answer the question "What did I learn from doing this?"  Study the notes and diagrams in the INB on eclipses, seasons, and tides.

Thursday:  Copy DOS.  Take pop quiz on tides, eclipses, and seasons.  Do notes on moon phases by filling in the blank of given worksheet.  Worksheet is taped into the INB.  HW - Moon phases reflection (moon phase diagram)Study for DOS Quiz.  Study the notes and diagrams in the INB on eclipses, seasons, and tides.

Friday:  DOS Quiz.  Check solar system test corrections.  Do "Moon Talk" Worksheet and moon phases gluing activity (for a grade).  Turn gluing activity into before leaving.  HW - Finish any of the two worksheets started during class (these will be turned in on Monday).  Study the notes and diagrams in the INB on eclipses, seasons, and tides.

February 25 - 29, 2008

Monday:  Copy DOS and weekly agenda.  Give back all graded papers.  Discuss test and grades, glue solar system test in INB.  Discuss written projects, how they were graded, and allow students to share their reports.  Discuss the viewing of the lunar eclipse.  Share pictures of the eclipse.  HW - do test corrections for the solar system test!

Tuesday: Copy DOS. Do notes on eclipses in the INB. Glue both the notes worksheet and response worksheet into INB.  Make human eclipses using small groups.  HW - Do left side worksheet response for reflection of eclipse notes.

Wednesday:  Copy DOS.  Do an eclipse demonstration using earth/moon model.  Do worksheet "Casting Shadows."  Students are given 10 minutes to complete in class.  Go over answers with class (worksheet is filed in the TOC).  Start notes on the seasons in the INB. HW - Be studying notes and diagrams, get caught up on INB reflections.

Thursday:  Finish notes on the seasons in the INB.  Go to the lecture hall to view the science fair projects.  HW - Study for DOS Quiz, finish February ecology project, do a reflection of your choice for the season notes in the INB.

Friday:  DOS Quiz.  Draw season diagram at the bottom of season notes in the INB.  Do season demonstration.  Start "Reason for the Seasons" worksheet.  While students are working, check ecology family project in INB.

February 18 - 22, 2008

Monday: NO SCHOOL

Tuesday:   Copy DOS and weekly agenda.  Have students share their solar system extra credit projects.  Students research in pairs one of the natural interactions between the moon and earth (eclipses, tides, moon phases, calendar, seasons).  They will take one page of notes in their INB with a diagram that they could use to teach the rest of the class about this topic.  Library books are provided for research.  HW - finish moon research (use Internet or books from home).

Wednesday:  Watch 2 short movie clips about the earth/moon interactions.  Students will take notes during the videos.  HW- Do 4-part video response in the INB.  There will be a lunar eclipse tonight!  Don't forget to go outside and view the moon!

February 11 - 15, 2008

Monday:  Copy DOS and weekly agenda.  Do PP notes on the solar system and fill in the blanks on the Great Solar System Rescue Worksheet while going over.  Assign Solar System Model Extra Credit project (due 2/19).  Give back papers.  Discuss any final questions about planet projects.  HW - work on planet projects, draw a model of the solar system including: sun, all 9 planets, asteroid belt, the Earth's moon (must be drawn to scale and colored with appropriate colors per the make-up of the planet).

Tuesday:  Copy DOS.  Tape yesterday's notes in the INB on the right side and glue in the solar system drawing on the left side for the refection.  Glue the Solar System Vocabulary Worksheet into the next right page in the INB.  Complete the worksheet.  Play several review games.  HW - finish planet projects, so both sides of the Key Terms Solar System Worksheet.

Wednesday:  Copy DOS. Planet projects due.  Share projects with the class.  Start study guide.  HW - finish test review and start studying for the test.

Thursday:  Copy DOS.  Go over solar system study guide.  Play a review game to get ready for the test.  Go over INB check for tomorrow.  HW - Study for DOS and study for solar system test, do study guide reflections in their INB (right side: drawing of the solar system, left side: reflection of their choice about the study guide - no drawings allowed).

Friday:  Solar System Test and DOS Quiz.  INB's will be checked!  Students may do other homework when they are finished with their tests! 

February 4 - 8, 2008

Monday:  Copy DOS x 2 and agenda.  Give back graded papers.  Turn in Mission #1 Worksheets.  Start Mission #2 of The Great Solar System Rescue.  HW - Work on Planet Enrichment project due 2/13

January 14 - 18, 2008

Monday:  Copy DOS and agenda.  Go to computer lab to finish research on comets.  HW - Finish front side of comet worksheet, do left side reflection of their choice for universe foldable, do tic-tac-toe reflection for for comet notes (taken from PP in INB).

Tuesday:  Copy DOS and HW on agenda.  Work in comet research groups for 10 minutes to compare results found in the search, do back of research worksheet.  Share comet reserach with class and check the back of the worksheet.  Start the Comet True or False worksheet.  HW - Write down on a piece of paper a creative way to help you remember the difference between meteoroid, meteorite, meteor.  Also, finish Comet True or False worksheet if not completed during class.  Assigned extra credit - Tuesday, February 12th at 6:30 pm in the WVMS library there will be a class on Internet Safety.  If parents attend, they will be given an admission ticket.  If the ticket is turned in on Wednesday, February 13th to me, students will receive 25 points extra credit.

Wednesday:  All supplies listed above due!  Go over "Comet True or False" worksheet, share ways the students came up with to remember the difference between meteor, meteorite, and meteoroid.  Play constellation game.  HW - Finish drawing and coloring constellation.

Thursday:  Copy DOS, go over new make-up work system, have students copy all dates from calendar on their agenda, and start crater impact lab.  Assign extra credit from crater lab.  Students may look up any of the impact craters listed on their lab background worksheet.  They must bring in information they have found and summarize their findings.  This is due 1/25.  HW - Study for DOS and finish "Chill Check" extra credit worksheet.

January 8 - 11, 2008

Monday:  NO SCHOOL

Tuesday:  Assign new seats, copy DOS x2, copy agenda, and go over parent letter.  Do astronomy vocabulary PP.  Sort astronomy vocabulary into the three different unit topics.  HW -Get parent letter signed for 10 points, do astronomy vocabulary left-side reflection (Look-up the words on the Internet, ask parents, search in books and decide if they should be placed in a different category.  Re-create the chart on the left side and reorganize the words according to your new information.), and get binder cleaned out ready to check.

Wednesday:  Collect parent letter, start universe flipbook, and check binders.

Thursday:  Copy DOS, discuss extra credit (Chill Check worksheet due next Friday, must attempt all to be considered), work on universe flipbook. HW - Study for DOS Quiz, finish universe foldabale (information can be found in the on-line textbook or the INB)

Friday:  DOS Quiz, give out monthly ecology reporting paper (due 1/31/08), go over comet PP (copy some notes, discussion), go to technology lab to do research for comet.  HW - bring needed supplies

December 17 - 21, 2007

Monday:  Copy DOS and agenda.  Start notes on the universe in the INB.   HW - Do Mayday Worksheet refection in INB (KWL chart - at least 5 things in each column of the chart!)

Tuesday:  Finish universe notes.  HW - Do reflection of universe notes (guided worksheet that is glued in)

Wednesday:  Copy DOS x2.  Do Words in Space crossword puzzle (game).  Organize and copy TOC.  Organize binder and all materials (must show Mrs. Clark for a binder check grade worth 50 points).  Start working on Chill Check worksheet.  HW - Finish organizing binder will be checked tomorrow for a grade.

Thursday:  Short classes: Holiday celebration, behavior celebration, and locker change.  Check binder organization.  Work on Chill Check Worksheet.  HW - Study for DOS quiz

We are in desperate need of glue sticks!  Please be sure your child has their own or please send some into the classroom!  This is something we use daily and is a supply your child must have!  I am happy to supply them with it if I have it!

Monday:  Copy DOS and agenda.  Work on partner energy foldable.  HW - Bring file folder with their name on it, work on extra credit due 12/7, work on energy foldabe due 12/5. (I have put the PP packets used for the notes on-line in the document section, please use this for help instead of the Internet!)

Tuesday:  Copy DOS, work on foldable (15 minutes), talk about science festival (give out parent letter, watch PowerPoint presentation).  HW - Finish energy foldable, get science festival parent letter signed, bring file folder (I have placed the science festival PowerPoint on-line under the photo documents section of our webpage, please feel free to review!) (The information to help them finish their energy foldable is also posted on-line in the photo/docs section.)

Wednesday:   Turn in energy foldable, file folder, and science festival signature, watch video Kilowatt Ours.  HW - Start discussing with family about project, do video reflection in INB

Monday:  Copy agenda and DOS.  Do heat transfer notes with partner, check as a class, and go over the three types of heat transfer (use guided worksheet in INB for notes).  HW-  Do 3 column chart for left side reflection of heat transfer notes, check over "Off to Come Place Cooler" worksheet.  Be sure to bring this worksheet back to class tomorrow! We will be using it for an in-class activity!

Monday:  Lights, Camera, Action Project Due.  Copy Dos and agenda.  Go over review worksheets.  Play vocabulary bingo for test review.  HW - Do left side reflection of your choice for the light, sound, and wave vocabulary worksheet (this will guide your studying)! Be sure your INB is ready to check! STUDY, STUDY, STUDY!

Tuesday:  NO SCHOOL!  STUDY! STUDY! STUDY! GET INB READY TO CHECK!

Wednesday:  Light, Sound, and Wave TEST!  INB Check!

Thursday:  Watch heat and temperature video.  Start working on video response. HW - Study for DOS Quiz, finish 4-part video response for heat and temperature video.

Friday:  Do heat and temperature t-chart notes in the INB.  Start working on reflection during class (#2 or #9 graphic organizer in back of room for reflection.  DOS Quiz (Don't forget to do your extra credit eye project due Monday 11/12)!

October 29 - November 2, 2007

Monday:  Copy DOS and agenda.  Assign Light project (due 11/5).  Work on light vocabulary foldable.  HW - finish light vocabulary foldable; bring in a transparent, translucent, and opaque object from home.

Tuesday:  Red Ribbon Day - WEAR RED; Start Light vocabulary demonstration.  HW - Work on light project, do light vocabulary foldable reflection (reflection is guided worksheet that is glued in)

Wednesday:  Finish light demonstration; play transparent, translucent, and opaque object game.  HW- Work on Light Project

Thursday:  Do sound demonstration, discuss sound concepts related to light.  HW - Do left side reflection for light bulb notes (reflection of their choice), Study for DOS Quiz, Work on Light Project

Friday:  Do Light, Sound, and Wave Review worksheet in class (check before leaving).  DOS QUIZ, HW- Work on Light Project, In-School Fall Frenzy Dance (must donate $10 to PTSA to be able to attend)

October 15 - 19, 2007

Monday: Copy agenda and DOS.  Have wave demonstration and play wave review game.  HW: Study for wave quiz and get INB ready to check.

Tuesday:  Wave Quiz and INB check.  Watch light video.  HW: Do left side 4-part video response for light video.

Wednesday:  Copy DOS and go over the light video questions.  Start light notes in their INB,

Thursday:  Copy DOS, finish notes on light (assign reflection - handout given by me), return wave quizzes to be glued in INB and corrected.  Start light vocabulary booklet.  HW: Study for DOS Quiz, do left side reflection for light notes (handout), do test corrections for wave quiz.

Friday:  DOS Quiz and work on light vocabulary booklet!  HW:  Have a wonderful and safe fall break!

October 8 - 12, 2007

Monday:  Copy DOS and weekly agenda. Complete EMS test review, go over with correct answers.  Return foldables and DOS quizzes.  Start sharing extra credit PP presentations. HW - Study for EMS test, do left side reflection for EMS foldable (glue into on the right side).  Reflection: First - correct anything missed directly on the foldable.  Do reflection of their choice on definitions.

Tuesday:  EMS Test.  Review for test (5 minutes), take test, finish showing PP extra credit presentations!

Monday: Copy DOS and agenda.  Give back DOS quizzes.  Check INB and test corrections.  Watch video on the electromagnetic spectrum and complete worksheet while watching.  HW - complete left side video response on electromagnetic spectrum video and create a mnemonic device to remember the order of the EMS (#13 on their video worksheet).

Tuesday:  Do notes on the electromagnetic spectrum (EMS).  Discuss the INB and how to improve the INB grades.  HW - complete left reflection of your choice over the EMS notes worksheet, correct INB based on classroom instructions, finish personal "Flat Stanley"

Wednesday:  Work on EMS vocabulary foldable.  Personal Flat Stanley due.  HW - Students can choose to work on EMS foldable because it is due by Friday.  Also, finish getting their INB ready for quiz on Friday.

Monday:  Copy DOS and weekly agenda.  Discuss midterms and collect any already signed.  Discuss Flat Stanley project.  Watch biome video and take notes on the right side in their INB.  HW - Bring Flat Stanley stuff (envelopes, stamps, addresses).  Get midterm signed.  Do left side video response reflection over biome video.

September 10 - 14, 2007

Monday: Assign new seats, return all graded papers (students are given time to organize table of contents), copy agenda for the week and DOS, have classroom discussion concerning some classroom procedures, finish gummy bear lab. HW - Finish Gummy bear lab and graphs.  Bring any missing assignments listed on the sheet given to students for partial credit.

Tuesday: Review for test over lab safety and the scientific method.  Students share bubble gum extra credit projects and turn in gummy bear labs for a grade.  This is the last chance for students to turn in any missing assignments.  HW - Study for test and get table of contents and INB ready to be graded.

Wednesday:  Test over the scientific method and lab safety.  Students will turn in table of contents and interactive notebook for a grade.  HW - study for DOS Quiz.

Thursday: DOS Quiz  HW - Complete test corrections in INB for a grade.  Test corrections increase the test grade!  It is very important to do these!

Friday: Field Trip!

September 4 - 7, 2007

Monday:  No School - Labor Day

Tuesday: Copy DOS, weekly agenda, and tape in scientific method video questions worksheet.  Students complete in class activity "What is Science."  HW: Do left side video response for the scientific method video (follow the guided worksheet already glued in the INB).  Finish the Sponge Bob worksheet and back side of penny lab worksheet.

August 27-31, 2007

Monday:  Copy agenda and DOS.  Correct lab safety quiz for a grade.  Take notes in your INB over the scientific method (on graphic organizer worksheet).  HW:  Do left side reflection of your choice on the scientific method vocabulary.

Tuesday:  Nail Lab - Use the scientific method to write out process.  HW: finish lab worksheet, bring back cricket letter.

Wednesday:  Turn in Sponge Bob Lab Safety Poster and cricket letter.  Do Penny Lab.  Students should finish the lab at home for homework.

Thursday:  Return papers while students copy agenda and DOS.  Go over Nail Lab (collect) and Penny Lab.  Students should finish the back of the penny lab and the Sponge Bob Scientific Method worksheet, due Tuesday, September 4th.  HW: Study for DOS Quiz and organize table of contents since papers were returned.  Discuss with students any missing grades.

Friday: DOS Quiz.  Student watch a video on the scientific method and complete worksheet based on the video.  HW:  There is no homework unless students did not finish the worksheets assigned on Thursday.

August 20-24, 2007

Monday - Go over syllabus, homework policy, and classroom procedures presentation.  Parents should have signed syllabus, homework policy, and INB directions over the weekend.  HW: Glue video response guidelines in their INB and get any of the mentioned documents signed.

Tuesday:  Go over instructions for the Interactive Notebook (INB).  Students should review these instructions located in the second section of their 3 subject spiral.  HW: Number 1-50 in their INB.

Wednesday:  Do lab safety with Sponge Bob.  Take a pre-quiz on lab safety.  Take notes in your INB.  Do a left side reflection of your choice over all 17 lab safety rules.

Thursday: Do Sponge Bob lab safety worksheet.  Assign Sponge Bob lab safety poster. Posters due Wednesday, August 29th.

Friday: Scientific Summer Project Due.  Students will present their project aloud in class.
