Process

STEP 1. The first thing you will need to do in your group is decide which
role each person is going to take. Remember the roles are: the Once-ler, the
Lorax, a truffula tree, and the boy listening to the story. Also, as a
group go the evaluation page and read over how you will be graded. This is
very important to understand how you will receive your grade.

STEP 2. Once this is decided, go to your individual role pages to get
further instructions and web pages for your role. You will have to keep a
journal of all the information you gather in your role that will be turned
in at the end with your completed book.

STEP 3: Research, research, research, research, and when you think you are
done, research a little more. Remember, you have to be able to present a
believable arguement of why your prespective is right.

STEP 4. Once everyone has compiled their information, you will gather back
together as a group and discuss exactly what each of you found. You will
need to decide who has a more believable arguement about what should be
done. Discuss the pros and cons of each side and put this information in a
t-chart for each perspective.

STEP 5. After you have decided, as a group, the best option to conclude
with, you will now write your story. The story must reflect the perspective
that you think presented the most evidence. The story must be at least 5
pages front and back with full page, color illustrations on each page. The
words must be typed or printed neatly in colored ink. The pictures must be
colored with crayons or colored pencils. Please no markers. The book must
also be bound in a manner of your groups choice. Each member must
participate in the making of the book in some way.

STEP 6: You will then turn in the following documents to the publishing
company for final review: your research journal, the t-chart listing pros
and cons to the perspective you are representing, and the completed
children's picture book (one per group).

STEP 7: Finally, your group will prepare a 5-7 minute presentation that
will be presented to a review committee choosen by the publishing company.
The presentation must include the reading of the book and why your research
team chose the perspective you ended with. Again, each member of your group
must participate in the group presentation. After all presentations, the
committee will vote on the best sequal to Dr. Seuss' original. The winning
group will receive the grand prize.
