7th Grade Reading Classwork

December 2009

Students are reading an article and discussing the author's purpose for writing; the audience; genre; and main idea. Students will also write a summary of the article.

Students are using a social studies-related article about "culture" to practice reading informational text. We are studying related vocabulary and spelling words, and re-reading for fluency.

Students are now reading several texts with the theme "crime and punishment" and are using the concept of cause and effect to understand the texts.

Students will read independently each class period in order to increase their decoding, fluency, and comprehension skills.
