7th Grade Reading Classwork

October 19-23, 2009

Students are reading an article and discussing the author's purpose for writing; the audience; genre; and main idea. Students will also write a summary of the article.

Students are using a social studies-related article about pioneer life to practice reading informational text. We are studying related vocabulary and spelling words, and re-reading for fluency.

Students are now reading several texts with the theme "crime and punishment" and are using the concept of compare/contrast to understand the texts.

Students will read independently each class period in order to increase their decoding, fluency, and comprehension skills.
