Book Report Information

February - April 2008

We are participating in the Nashville Sounds reading program. Students must complete two book reports: a how-to book report/demonstration and a biography book report which will include presenting a time line detailing the important events in that person's life.

The biography book title must be approved by me by April 4th. The planning document for the time-line is due April 11th. Students will then create a time-line on poster board noting the most important dates and events from the person's lifetime. They will share these in class the week of April 21st.

Students who meet the requirements for the class (the two book reports and demonstrations) will earn a ticket to a Nashville Sounds game on April 30th. The game will take place during school hours; more information will be shared as we get closer to the event!

Book Reports: General Information (please note: these options do not apply for Feb-April 2008)

You will complete two book reports each semester. Mrs. Hirschmann must approve your book selection (to make sure the topic, length and reading level are appropriate) before you complete your report.

You may choose any one of the following book report formats:

1)                  Book Report Form. We have done one of these together in class. Use the information in the book you have read to fill out the form. You must use complete sentences for all of your answers

2)                  Pass an AR Test. You must earn at least an 80% on the AR test. Remember, only library books with red bands have an AR test available.

3)                  Illustration Summary. You may draw at least three pictures showing what happens in the book. Your pictures should include the characters, the setting and a summary of the action (what happened) in the book. Each picture should have a caption (a sentence or two) under it explaining what it shows. You must include the book title and the authors name.

4)                  Artifact Box. You may choose to bring in at least six items in a box that help you tell the class about the book. You will display each item and explain why it represents the book. Your items should include something to represent the characters, the setting, and the plot (what happens in the story). You must label the box with the book title and the authors name.
