2nd Nine Weeks Menu

Mr. Davis’ 2nd Nine Weeks Menu

~~~ALL PROJECTS ARE DUE FRIDAY, DECEMBER 11TH~~~
Periodic Table Poster = 200 points
Students must create a periodic table of the elements. Each block must be set-up as shown at right and contain the following: actual name of the element, the element’s symbol, the atomic number, the atomic mass, the number of protons, neutrons, and electrons, a common use for the element (for example, sodium is commonly table salt, used to flavor foods), and one interesting fact about the element. Each table must be colored coded with the following families
highlighted: the alkali metals, alkaline earth metals, halogens and noble gases. A rubric
will be provided in class.
 Electromagnet Creation = 100 points
Students must create an electromagnet using a bar magnet and a wire coil. Students cannot use the same set-up demonstrated and experimented with in class—this must be an original creation. Extra points can be earned if the student shows how the strength of the electromagnet can be increased and/or decreased. A rubric will be provided in class.
Venn Diagram = 50 points
Students must create a Venn diagram which shows the similarities and differences between
electricity and magnetism. Projects must be created on a standard piece of poster board
and must use color in some way.
Create a Study Guide for the Chapter or Unit Test = 25 points
Review of Educational Television Show = 25 points
Television Show must be approved by Mr. Davis. Some possible choices are Discovery Science Channel, National Geographic Channel, Animal Planet, shows such as Dirty Jobs, Mythbusters, Food Detectives, Man vs. Wild and many more are available. A rubric will be provided by the teacher and must be completed by the student to receive full credit.
Vocabulary Flash Cards = 25 points
Flash Cards must be completed and turn in the day we take each Unit Test!
Flash Cards are to be completed on a 3 x 5 index card. The student is to
write the vocabulary term on the front and the definition (from the lecture
guides that we complete in class) on the back. These prove to be a great
study tool for vocabulary tests.
