Mini School Rules

TITAN MINI SCHOOL POLICIES

WWMS Discipline Policy

It is expected that all students will be:
	Prompt
	Polite
	Prepared
	Participants in class
Students are expected to exhibit the following behaviors:
    1. Follow all school rules and policies.
    2. Be on time for class.
    3. Bring all materials required by teacher to class.
    4. Follow the class room talking policy.
    5. Participate fully in class activity/work.
    6. Use respectful and appropriate language to everyone in the building.
    7. Respect the property of the school and others.
    8. Show self-control and appropriate behavior on school property and at
       all school events.
    9. Personify the pledge of character in actions and attitudes.

Students choosing to behave inappropriately will be disciplined.

Consequences
Consequences for rule violations are cumulative. Demerits are issued for
rule infractions. These are signed by the teacher and the student.
Records of demerits are calculated and recorded by the homeroom teacher. A
student is allowed an average of one demerit per day present during the week
(one day present, one demerit; five days present, five demerits); more than
that amount will incur a consequence. The mini school will provide three
consequences for excessive demerits. Consequences are before school
detention, lunch detention, and/or isolation. Parents will be notified of
excessive demerits when the consequence is assigned. Once the third
consequence for excessive demerits has been served with the mini school and
a behavior meeting with the parent or guardian has been held, the student
will be referred to the principal thereafter. If a student earns more than
an average of three demerits per week during the reward period but has not
served a mini school consequence for excessive demerits, he or she will be
referred to the assistant principal due to a pattern of disruptive behavior.

Rewards
Students choosing to behave in the expected manner consistently will be
rewarded. Two reward activities per semester will be scheduled to reward
those students with consistent good behavior. To participate in the reward
activity, students will be allowed a maximum of 1.5 demerits per week in the
reward calculation period (for example, twelve in an eight week period.) As
the year progresses, the number of demerits allowed will be decreased. Any
student suspended out of school during the reward period will not be allowed
to participate in the long-term reward activity. Students who owe tests or
the equivalent must make up the assignments in question before participating
in the reward. New students must have demonstrated consistent good behavior
to participate in the reward activity.

Severe Clause
Severe or continuous misbehavior and those offenses listed in the Wilson
County Code of Conduct as intermediate violations or major offenses will be
immediately referred to the principal. The Wilson County Code of Conduct is
printed in the student agenda.

Misbehavior with a Substitute Teacher
Substitute teachers are employees of the Wilson County School System;
therefore, students are expected to respect and cooperate with substitute
teachers. Any student who chooses to disregard this policy will be assigned
a one hour before or after school detention.

A.M. Tardy Policy
If a student is not in class at 8:15, he or she MUST check in at the office
and be given a note to class. The note will be marked as “excused”
or “unexcused.” After the third unexcused tardy, the parent will be
notified. Upon the fourth unexcused tardy, and each subsequent one, the
student will be referred to the assistant principal. Tardies are tallied on
a semester basis.

Make up Work
Students are responsible for obtaining assignments if absent. Most of the
Titan teachers have websites where this information is posted. Each teacher
will have a policy regarding the best method to obtain missed assignments.
If a student is absent, he or she will be allowed to make up missed work if
done within the number of days absent according to the county policy. It is
the student’s responsibility to call another student, check the website, or
get the assignment from the teacher. No work will be collected through the
office or guidance unless absent three or more days or required by an IEP.

Late Work/Second Chance Policy
Work is due on the date determined by the teacher; students who choose to
disregard due dates suffer the consequences of their choices. Every nine
weeks each student will receive two “Second Chance Passes” in each core
class. These passes will allow the student to redo an assignment, retake a
test, or turn in an assignment one class period late. Some restrictions may
apply; however, these will be covered by the individual classroom teacher
when these passes are issued. Passes are non-transferable and cannot be
rolled over to the next grading period. There will be no “on demand” grading
whether the requests are made by students, parents, or coaches. Makeup work
or late work goes on the bottom of the teacher’s “to be graded” stack and is
processed after current work has been evaluated.

Extra Credit
Extra credit must serve an academic purpose and be aligned to the course
curriculum. Extra credit is not given unless it is made available to every
other student in the class. Extra credit is not included in grade/behavior
checks unless it has been counted for all other students.

Cheating and/or Plagiarism
All students are expected to be honest and responsible. Work should be
completed by the student. Students who copy from other students, the
Internet, or other sources will receive a zero for the assignment(s) and
face disciplinary action.

Classroom Distractions
As our primary focus in the classroom should always be academics, students
should leave non-related items in the locker. This includes but is not
limited to toys, gifts, sports items, or bags. Purses that can not be left
in the locker should remain on the floor by the student’s desk. Please see
the county policy regarding “wireless communication devices.”

Midterm and Final Exams
Exams will be given in all academic classes. The exam grades will
constitute 10% of the students’ midterm and final grade. Algebra I has
separate guidelines.

Grade Checks for Extra Curricular Activities
Grade checks for extra curricular activities are completed by the teacher on
the official form created by the sponsor of the activity. No grades will be
recorded by any teacher on notebook paper or any form created by the
student. Grade/behavior checks are completed only once per week. No
exceptions.

Absences
Written documentation supporting reasons for absences must be submitted to
school within three days. This must include the reason for absence, date of
absence, parent signature, and daytime phone numbers. Please check the
student’s agenda for the list of excused absences.

Early Dismissal Notes
If your student will be leaving before the 3:15 dismissal time, a note must
be written by the parent and given to his or her homeroom teacher in order
to place the student’s name on the “leaving list” and facilitate dismissal.

Out of Area
Titan students are expected to remain in our area of the building. Our area
consists of the locker area and the classroom hall. Titans are never to be
in the Champion hall unless they have a pass from a Titan teacher recorded
in the agenda and/or a specific reason to visit a Champion teacher or
classroom. This also applies to the sixth and seventh grade areas of the
building as well as other areas. Titans are to enter the Titan classroom
pod through the hall by the restrooms and exit in the same manner. Students
who are out of area without permission will be disciplined. Students
scheduled for classes in one of these areas are exempt for that class period
only.

E-mail
All WWMS teachers have email. Our addresses are listed on the cover
letter. You are welcome and encouraged to contact us at any time during the
school day via this method. Please be advised that we may not be able to
respond immediately as our class schedule may not permit it. However, all
communications will be answered as soon as possible during school hours.

Returning Items to School
Throughout the school year students will be required by the school to take
forms, letters, grade checks, and other communications home to the parent
for information and/or signatures. Students have three days to return said
items. After three school days, consequences will be enacted. The only
exception would be those forms which require student funds. Field trips are
not part of this policy as field trips have very specific due dates dictated
by the venue.

Grade checks are the property of the school and are kept on file by the
homeroom teacher. If a student must have a duplicate form issued and
completed by the teachers due to the student’s negligence or voluntary act,
consequences will follow.

Necessary Supplies
Students will receive a supply list. Coats, jackets, backpacks, and
athletic bags are to be left in the locker or designated area. Every
student must have a lock rented from the school on his or her locker at all
times.

Agendas
Students are required to use their agendas every class period. If a student
loses his or her agenda, he or she will be expected to purchase another one
from guidance.
