About The Teacher

This is my third year here at West Wilson Middle. I graduated from Middle
Tennessee State University with a Bachelor's Degree in Middle School
Education- Grades 5-8. I was born and raised in Nashville and graduated from
McGavock High School. Upon starting college, I was unsure about what career
path I wanted. I began my college career at Volunteer State Community
College where I earned an Associate's Degree in Mass Communication. Upon
graduating, I realized that my heart was truly not with radio, TV, and media
outlets and I began to consider teaching, but I was still unsure what
subject and grade I wanted to teach. I ended up volunteering one day a week
with my former 5th grade Science teacher teaching with her in her classroom.
It was then that I realized my passion for Science and love for teaching 8th
graders. I completed my Bachelor's Degree at MTSU and immediately found a
job in Wilson County. When I am not in the classroom teaching, I enjoy
spending time with my girlfriend, Ashley, and playing with my dog, Emily.

Mission For The Class

I believe that my most important task is to make all students feel
successful. All students want to learn and they all want to succeed. I also
believe that students learn best and are more likely to succeed when they
have the freedom to learn in a manner that best suits their individual
learning style.
I have discovered that hands-on inquiry-based activities are more likely to
create durable learning and are conducive to satisfying a wide range of
learning styles. Combining technology with the hands-on, inquiry-based
instruction enhances learning and motivates students to learn. It makes
learning more fun and results in increased retention. Because middle
schoolers especially enjoy working together, a cooperative learning
environment, where students are held accountable for their own learning,
stimulates the desire to learn and share the learning.
Learning through hands-on experiences provide a natural method of learning.
It is the process we all used to begin our journey into knowing the moment
we were born.
Because inquiry is a natural process, all students, regardless of academic
ability can succeed. My greatest reward is seeing students succeed, often
times for the first time in their school careers. Challenged students who
may have difficulty learning to read, write, or do math, often have an
interest in science topics.
