Each block must be set-up as shown at right and contain the following: actual name of the element, the element’s symbol, the atomic number, the atomic mass, the number of protons, neutrons, and electrons, a common use for the element (for example, sodium is commonly table salt, used to flavor foods), and one interesting fact about the element. Students cannot use the same set-up demonstrated and experimented with in class—this must be an original creation. Extra points can be earned if the student shows how the strength of the electromagnet can be increased and/or decreased.
