Electronic Devices Cell phone, radio, mp3 player, cd player and any other electronic device may not be turned on, used or visible during the school day. This includes sending a text message for any reason. Any device that is seen, heard or used during the school day will be confiscated and can only be returned to the parent the next school day. The second time a device is taken up from a student, it is not returned for 30 days. The third time, the device is not returned for 30 days and the student is suspended out of school for 2 days. I. Overview of Study Island 1. Standards based a. The program is based solely on the state standards. All tested standards are covered. b. If a student completes the program, he/she will have practiced all standards tested on the test. 2. Instructional a. Students receive immediate feedback after each practice item (correct or incorrect and an explanation). b. Lessons precede each practice session 3. Practice items similar to the real tests. a. The program aims to prepare students by covering all standards and by making them familiar with the test question style. 4. Topics within a section a. A topic is a pool of test questions and explanations along with a short lesson. b. When a student begins a session for a topic, the program goes into that pool of items and selects the number of questions specified for that session then gives the questions in random order. Each session is unique because the questions are given in random order and because the answer choices change position. c. The questions are not generated from our text book, but from Study Island which are correlated to state standards. 5. Pass Post Test a. The post test is only available after the student passes all topics within the section. b. The post test draws from the same pool of questions as the pre-test. II. Grading 1. Participation a. Student’s grades are based on participation, not the scores they earn on the tests and games. b. Each assignment completed is worth 25 points when completed by the due date. III. Other 1. Content a. Questions generated by Study Island are NOT necessarily from our adopted text book. b. Topics have been addressed in class; however, the program will generate questions than may not be found in the text. This is why it is important to read the lesson before taking the test.
