Being a teacher was my calling for as long as I can remember. To prepare
myself to be an effective, qualified educator, I have a B.A in English and
Elementary Education from Houghton College and an M.Ed. in Reading from the
University of South Carolina. I've taught in Indiana, and in Kentucky, where
I taught Childrens'Literature at Asbury College for 5 years. I have taught
in Wilson County for 12 years, first at W A Wright Elementary, now WWMS.
I've been teaching about 19 years at this point. I stayed home with my kids
when they were young, but knew I would be coming back to my calling.
I am an avid reader, preferring historical fiction and realistic fiction.
Stories that take place in the south, especially in SC are among my
favorites! I also like to garden, travel (the beach, and to Europe 3 times)
and cook (when I have time!). I've been married for 36 years and have a
great adult son and daughter. Jordan (26) has been married to lovely Shannon
for a little over a year. Stephanie (23) is a full-time student at MTSU,
majoring in Special Needs Children education. One Boxer and two cats keep the
house reminiscent of children!
I love dark chocolate, flavored coffee, Starbucks, Yankee Candles, and
anything Bath and Body Works. Chocolate and coffee ARE good for you, and I
understand there is a movement to make them part of the food triangle! :)
Thanks for giving me the opportunity of teaching your children this year!
Please refer back to the Reading class newsletter for my goals and objectives
this year. It goes without saying that I would love to turn all my "I -don't-
like-to-read" students into readers, but I'll be happy with the slow steady
progress!
