Debbie Carden has taught in the CDC Class setting in Weakley County Schools
for the past 18 years. She has her Bachelor's Degree in K-12 Special
Education through Southern Illinois University and her Master's Degree in
Educational Leadership through Trevecca Nazarene University.
A Comprehensive Development Curriculum is taught within the CDC Lifeskills
Progragm. Students are taught basic living skills for independence in
conjunction with basic job skills . Math skills taught include: calendar,
money, calculator, telling time, measurement in the kitchen, reading scales,
reading temperatures, banking, check writing, etc. Reading skills include:
learning personal information, filling out job applications, filing, ABC
order, phone book skills, reading and following schedules, following
directions, reading and recognition of survival words and signs, etc. The
CDC Curriculum also stresses vocational skills and interests, fine and gross
motor development, housekeeping, cooking, shopping, and clothing care.
Speech, OT, and PT are offered for qualifying students. We strive to teach
these skills in the least restrictive environment and work cooperatively
with many of the clubs and classes here at Westview to provide socialization
with peers.
It is my goal that each student achieve as much independence as possible
while in the CDC classroom. My hope is that every student will transition
into an appropriate adult training program upon completion of their school
career at Westview.
