Classroom Procedures

Classroom Procedures

Mrs. Bolus  2007/2008

Beginning Class

Class begins as soon as you enter the room.  The bell does not begin the class. I do not begin the class.  YOU begin the class.  Enter the room quietly and get out your materials.  You will have an assignment posted on the board each day, so get started!

My Definition of Tardy

It is important to be on time to class everyday.  If you are not in your seat when the bell rings, you are tardy.  The fourth and all subsequent tardies are referred to the principal.

Seat Assignments

Remain in your assigned seat unless otherwise instructed.

Classroom Time

Class time is not the time to go to the library, guidance office, main office, or restroom.  It is your responsibility to manage your time to ensure your needs are met before the scheduled class time.  *No personal grooming [combing hair, applying makeup, etc.]  Brushes, combs, makeup, and mirrors will be confiscated. No CD players, cell phones, nor misuse of calculators [playing games]; these will also be confiscated.

Pencil Sharpening

A pencil sharpener, hole punch, and stapler are provided for your convenience at the work station. You may use these as needed, but be considerate.  One person is allowed at the pencil sharpener at any given time.  Please do not get out of your seat to use the pencil sharpener while someone is speaking to the class.

Personal Belongings

Place any items that you will not be using under your table as much as possible.  Keep aisle ways clear and free of clutter.  You are responsible for your space.  Keep it clean and organized.  Class will not be dismissed until all items are returned to their proper place and all litter is picked up off the floor.

*Dress Code

Dress code will be enforced.

*When I want YOUR Attention

My expectations are that you will:

            Stop what you are doing

            Look at me, and

            Listen

*When YOU want my Attention

Raise your hand and you will be recognized.

*Heading your work

Heading your paper properly allows you to better organize your work.  It also ensures that you get your grade.  In the upper right hand corner of your work, write:

            Your name                                                       Mark Smith

            Date                                                                 08-12-2002

            Class                                                                Biology I

            Period                                                              2nd Period

            Assignment/ Page #                                         Chapter Review, P.25

Makeup Work

If you are absent, YOU are responsible for finding out what you missed and completing all work.  I suggest immediately getting the name and phone number of another student in this class as a resource person.  This person can update you on assignments, notes, etc. They will also be a resource if you don’t understand a homework assignment and need some clarification.  The student will receive one day for each day missed plus one to complete make-up work for an excused absence.  Excused absences are granted through the office with a parent letter explaining the absence. This needs to be taken care of as soon as the student returns to school.  Tests can be made up before or after school when arrangements are made with me.  If the absence is unexcused, the student will receive a zero for all work missed during the absence.

Late Work

Assignments are due at the beginning of class. Late Assignments will only be accepted up to one day late for 50% credit.

Progress Reports

You can expect to get a progress report every other Friday.  These are to be signed by you and your parents and returned the following Monday.

Written Work

Be professional in your work.  Make it neat and legible.

*Complete written work in pencil or blue/black ink.  No pastel gel pens, markers, etc.

Tests

Integrity and honesty as a student are crucial.  You are expected to keep your eyes on your own paper.  Talking is not permitted during tests.  If I see you talk during a test, your paper will be taken up and you will receive a Zero.

Grading

Your grade will be based on the following:

60%      Daily Work: classwork, homework, lab reports, daily quizzes, etc.

40%      Tests, Projects, Portfolio, Research papers

Notebook

You are expected to keep a neat and organized notebook of all required work.  It will include Rules and Consequences, Class Procedures, Lab Safety Guide, etc.

Ending Class

Remain in your seats and be quiet while I will finish making my final remarks, and then you will be dismissed.
