Wilson County Schools has access to computers, networks, and the Internet. A small minority has made objectionable materials available over the Internet. Wilson County Schools will take every precaution to restrict access to this information. We believe that the valuable information available on the Internet far outweighs the possibility that users may obtain unsuitable material. Disciplinary action will be taken against users found sending or acquiring objectionable material over the Internet or developing objectionable material on school equipment.
Please remember the following:
•Never download or install any software without your teacher’s permission. •Never tamper with technology equipment that does not belong to you. •School computers may not be used for personal e-mail. •No attempt to tamper with other people’s data or to gain unauthorized access to accounts or files on the networks, including the Internet, is permitted. •Wilson County Schools does not condone and specifically forbids the unauthorized duplication of software. •I will abide by copyright law. I understand that computer, network and Internet use at Wilson County Schools is a privilege and not a right and that my use of this privilege may be revoked at any time for any reason.
Use of computers and the Internet provides great educational benefits to students. Access is a privilege to students who agree to act in a ethical and responsible manner. We require that students and parents or guardians read, accept, and sign the following rules for acceptable on-line behavior. Refusal or failure to sign does not relinquish the student from obeying all rules and policies regarding computer and Internet use at Wilson Central High School or in the Wilson County School System.
Ø Students are responsible for good behavior on the computer and Internet just as they are in school. General school rules for behavior and communications apply.
Ø I will make no attempt to copy or delete files to or from the computer workstations since such actions will be treated as intent to pirate or disable software. Offenders can be subject to criminal penalties and fines up to $250.00 per work. Ø Hacking is defined as any malicious attempt to harm or destroy data of another user or system software, including MicroType Multi-Media or Microsoft Word files. Any “system hacking” will result in cancellation of computer privileges. Ø I will make no attempt to retrieve and/or alter files that are not mine. This is considered cheating. Duplication of work will result is a zero for all parties for first offense. Second offense will result in loss of 50 points from class participation grade and Disciplinary Office Referral. Ø I will not bring any computer disks, CD’s, earphones, or other unapproved items (toys, etc.) to class. Items will be confiscated and sent to office. Ø I will not access e-mail or transmit messages of any type (e-mail, instant messaging, written, or otherwise). Wilson County policy prohibits students from using these types of messaging on computers. Failure to comply may result in suspension from computer privileges. Ø I will not access games on the computer before or during class without permission from the instructor. Violation of this rule will be interpreted as “defiance” and you will receive a Disciplinary Office Referral and loss of 20 points from class participation grade. Ø I will not download or attempt to copy anything from the Internet without the teacher’s permission and proof that the picture, sound, game, etc. are not copyrighted material. Violation of this rule will be interpreted as “defiance” and you will receive a Disciplinary Office Referral and be subject to possible legal action for violation of the Copyright Protection Act. Ø I will make no attempt to change any program defaults including the screen saver or icon identification, except by approval of instructor. Failure to observe this will result in loss of 20 points from class participation grade. Ø I will not have food or drink in the computer lab. All refreshments must be deposited in a garbage receptacle before entering the classroom. Failure to observe will result in forfeiture of goodies and possible office referral. Ø I will not knowingly post or forward information that involves profanity, obscenity, or other antisocial behavior. Office referral. Ø I will rise from my seat and will not use my chair for mobility whenever I need to move from my workstation. Failure to do so will result in 20 points from class participation grade and given a chair without wheels. Ø I will arrive to class on time and be prepared to work. Failure to do so will result in 10 points from class participation grade. Ø I will not ask to leave during class, and I will remain in my seat until the bell. Failure to do so will result in 10 points from class participation grade.

Should I violate the rules, I understand that I may lose network/computer privileges at my school. These rules are in addition to those required by the Wilson County School Board.
