Dear Parents,
What an exciting year is in store for your student! WCHS continues to
create tremendous opportunities for us all. The honors course deal with
advanced studies in grammar, literature, writing and communication skills,
as well as Tennessee State Standards through Gateway Testing and county-wide
vertical alignment standards. WHEW! These students receive additional
challenges for superior preparation for high school and college. I am
writing to assure you that your child, if he/she listens carefully and
actively participates, should do quite well. Those used to getting A’s
should be able to keep up that pace if they keep up with the content of the
course.
This year, the students will be extremely busy, and your help in monitoring
their homework and progress is very important. Each student receives a
syllabus for each term, (you can also access this information at my web
site - and though this is not etched in stone, we will probably stay close
to the schedule. Please feel free to ask your teen to see it.
Students will be involved in several projects which may require time out of
class, extra reading out of class, and research which might take them to
area libraries.
We have access to many incredible software programs as well as internet
access. Students are expected to follow our county internet usage policy
and class rules pertaining to the equipment. Each student will also receive
an Agenda, a personal organizer provided by the county, which must be
brought to class each day. We also have a $3 fee in honors English, which
we really would like to collect before the end of the 1st week of school.
