TENNESSEE SCHOLARS

The Tennessee Scholars Program is a course of study that encourages students to take more demanding classes in high school which will better prepare them to enter a technical school, community college, university or the work-force.  Tennessee Scholars will be students who complete specific academic courses in math science, language arts, and social studies.  Further requirements will include a computer course, wellness, fine arts, foreign language, and two technical courses in the same technical track.  In addition, students will be expected to have 20 hours of community service, an overall "C" average in Tennessee Scholars courses, 95% attendance, and no out-of-school suspensions.

As a Tennessee Scholar, students are recognized by teachers, parents, and community leaders as students who accept challenges and set high goals.  Tennessee Scholars have opportunities for better jobs and are stronger candidates for certain types of financial aid and scholarships for college.  By following, and exceeding, the graduation path requirements, every student can be a Tennessee Scholar.

CLASS RANK

Students will receive a class rank at the end of the seventh (7th) semester.  Class rank may be required on college applications.

TRANSCRIPT REQUESTS

Requests for transcripts to be sent to colleges of your choice may be made with the registrar in the guidance office.  Simply complete a "Transcript Request" form and the registrar will send copies of your transcript and ACT scores (if applicable) to the colleges or universities referenced on the form.

  What Should I Be Doing

The time has come.   Your high school days will be over before you know it.  In just a few short months, you will officially be finished with this chapter of your life.  Where will you go from here?

That is the question you should all be seriously thinking about.  Many of you will be going to college or to a 2 year or technical school.  We suggest that you first make a list of all the schools you are considering.  Then narrow that list down to a manageable number (3-7).  These are the schools from which you need to be gathering information.

Visit the Guidance Office. We have materials and applications for many different  schools.  You may take one of our applications.  If we do not have what you are looking for, call the school’s admissions office or visit their website.  You can find many college websites by visiting www.allaboutcollege.com.

Check deadlines.  All schools have different deadlines for applications and  scholarships.  Make sure you find out what those dates are and stick to them.  If you are trying to get a scholarship from al college, make sure you check scholarship deadlines as well.  Often scholarship deadlines are different than application deadlines and can be very early in the year.

You must be self-motivated!  This is your life.  Don’t wait around for someone else to tell you what to do.  Make something happen!
