I am a registered nurse, a graduate of Tennessee State University. My life
experiences in nursing have given me a diverse background. My work has
included such specialties as pediatrics (children), neonatology (newborns),
oncology (cancer), case management, and parish nursing. I was in
the U.S. Army Nurse Corps nine years. While serving in Desert Storm, I met my
husband who was in the British Army. We have a lovely daughter.
I feel my experiences have enabled me to teach as well as guide students in
preparation for their life goal(s). This is my sixteenth year to teach in
the Health Science program. I am an American Heart Association Instructor,
National Safety Council Instructor, and also one of the HOSA (Health
Occupations Students of America) advisors here at Wilson Central. I look
forward to working with each and every student.
"Start by doing what's necessary, then what's possible, and suddenly you are
doing the impossible."---Francis of Assisi
I would have LOVED to have had Health Science courses when I was in high
school. It would have made college so much easier. My goal is to make
students' lives easier and healthier, no matter where life takes them.
I believe a person's only limitation in life is herself/himself. One can
reach any goal if they will only try. Having said this, I believe it is a
teacher's responsibility to teach, not let others prevent learning from
taking place.
I want to spark an interest in health care within my students. I want them to
enjoy learning all they can about the field of health science (medicine).
It is exciting to think I might quite possibly have the next Edward Jenner or
Jonas Salk in my class. In fact, I am sure I do!
"How wonderful it is that nobody need wait a single moment to improve the
world."---Anne Frank
